Have a look! The hearing on the bill to abolish the Office of the Consumer Advocate was supposed to last an hour, but it took 2 . . . there was so much to say about the value of INDEPENDENT ratepayer advocacy. My testimony starts at about the halfway point. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZIZ...

Why is this important? It’s costing ratepayers in New Hampshire money and it’s undermining their freedom to make energy choices. COGE: Call me, maybe?

It’s today! See you at 10:00. If you cant be there, see info in kink on how to register your opinion on whether NH still needs an independent advocate for residential ratepayers. www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-med...

Good news? The CF Foundation owns a significant stake in pre-merger BiomX -- and, gosh, wouldn't it be grand to put pseudomonas aurugenosa back on its heels! www.fiercebiotech.com/biotech/biom...

This remarkable hearing from yesterday -- the first 90 minutes of the video -- laid bare the fact that utility regulation in New Hampshire is a dysfunctional mess right now. (In case of interest, my testimony starts at minute 57.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdpr...

With less than 48 hours to go before the hearing on the bill to eliminate the Office of the Consumer Advocate, 206 people have already registered comments: 201 opposed to abolition, 4 in support, 1 said "support" when she meant "oppose." Please weigh in! FMI, see www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-med...

If you care about the future of ratepayer advocacy in NH, now is the time to weigh in. The bill to abolish the Office of the Consumer Advocate will be heard by a House committee on Wednesday. Come to the hearing, or submit comments in writing. For more information: www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-med...

It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation. I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!

“Over the last three years, rates for investor-owned utilities went up 49% higher than the rate of inflation. Whereas rates for publicly owned utilities have gone up 44% less than inflation.”

Just back from Iceland! Returned to the news that the hearing on HB610, which would abolish the NH Office of the Consumer Advocate, will be heard on March 5 at 10:00 a.m.i do not think New Hampshire should silence independent and principled ratepayer advocacy after nearly 50 years. More soon!

Today I celebrate 9 years as NH's Consumer Advocate. I'm an independent state official who works hard to save ratepayers money and increase their freedom, no matter who that annoys or offends. I'm proud to have been nominated by governors of both parties. I intend to keep my job.

From one cystic fibrosis dad to another: Shame on you, Mr. Vought. My experiences as a CF parent have inspired in me a sense of compassion, pride in what we have accomplished, and optimism about what we will yet achieve. I'm sorry it's not like that for you. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Breaking News: A judge declared for the first time that the Trump White House had defied a judicial mandate by ignoring his order to release billions in grants.

Every single stupid conversation I’ve had with a scientist about anticipatory obedience and historical comparisons over the last week has had me thinking about how scientists’ political incompetence is one of the major arguments for a liberal arts education Like you’re literally a tool without it

In tempestuous times like these, after everything above and aloft has been secured, nothing more can be done but passively to await the issue of the gale.

I'm less into the Super Bowl than many of you so when the guy at the bodega says unprompted "enjoy the game!" I choose to assume that he means the great game of life, of romance, of human existence. C'est la belle vie!

Interestingly, in Loper Bright vs Raimondo, the conservative majority on SCOTUS ruled just last year that the judiciary can in fact overrule regulatory decisions made by the executive branch especially when those decisions are not specified by Congress.

"The Supreme Court ruled 90 years ago that presidents don't have the power to fire commissioners of independent agencies. Samuels doesn't want to become the case that changes that." But if you do nothing, you ARE that case. Go for it, Commissioner Samuels! www.npr.org/2025/02/05/n...

To those who favor killing the NH Office of the Consumer Advocate: Read this. Eversource wants a 10.3% return on equity in its rate case. The Dept. of Energy = 9.5%. OCA: 8.1%. www.thebignewsletter.com/p/power-moves-how-electric-utility?r=aapx7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email&triedRedirect=true

This is the work of people who have too much time on their hands. Unless you are from Delaware and care about its revenue from fees, etc., who cares whether it remains the dominant state for incorporation? I say: Dethrone Delaware! corpgov.law.harvard.edu/2025/02/07/d...

Hello New Hampshire electric customers! This would be a great time to check what you are paying for electricity . . . . you might want to get back on default service, at least temporarily. They can't stop you. www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-media/electric-customers-check-your-rate-now

Does the 25 percent tariff on Canadian imports include electricity? Asking for a friend.

Last May I looked the CEO of Liberty Utilities' Canadian parent company Algonquin, Chris Huskilson, in the eye and told him his company had worn out its welcome in New Hampshire. He said he would try to change my mind. Now he's been fired, after less than 2 years. My mind is made up.

S&P Global on the proposed sale by Eversource of Aquarion Water to the "Aquarion Water Authority," a Connecticut public entity: "Public authorities fall outside the jurisdiction of regulated commissions, meaning Aquarion's . . . rates would no longer require state regulatory approval." WRONG!

On one hand, Trump is moving at breakneck speed to accomplish a project that is generational in scale, which the country didn’t ask for, doesn’t want, and which won’t solve any of its problems. On the other hand there’s no opposition so who’s to say

Eversource plans to sell Aquarion, including its subsidiary in New Hampshire, to some public water authority in Connecticut. Someone is going to have to convince me how a governmental entity from another state can legally own a NH utility and if so how that could possibly be good for NH ratepayers.
