Misty late aft, south Cheung Chau

Article by me on the Four Peaks Race - Hong Kong yachting and hill running in around a day, in PostMag

Advocating conservation: Worth a try, or best to do little or nothing, even get into greenwashing, become a "biostitute"? Plenty of issues in Hong Kong; so often little progress. www.hkoutdoors.com/issues-impac...

Crazy temps forecast, another sign of climate change going nuts. As some sort of comparison: shot from Beidaihe, east of Beijing in mid-March 1985, when I first arrived with friends to do a bird survey. That's sea ice - so freezes at below 0C; and had been typical there.

Months after the event, a post about test use of OM System 150-400mm lens; thanks to Wong Rainsom for arranging my participation, and OM System Hong Kong for arranging the outing plus letting me use this outstanding lens. www.drmartinwilliams.com/test-photos-...

The wages of the richest 1% have skyrocketed 182% since 1979.  Meanwhile, the wages of the bottom 90% have seen just 44% growth.  Trickle down economics was always a hoax.

Just read Grok no longer reports Elon Musk is the biggest spreader of disinformation on X. So I asked a couple of questions.

Common Snipe, Long Valley, HK

"Daddy says he owns you. Can you get me an ice cream?"

If this were Just Stop Oil, there'd have been dozens of arrests, furious denunciations in the billionaire press and, perhaps, long jail sentences. Farmers have a right to protest, and the police respect it. Other people, it seems, not so much. The real #TwoTierPolicing www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/...

Just revised this, with more correspondence with AFCD. While an email said they welcomed suggestions; seemed this was a lie, as when I gave some, just ignored/ sidestepped. Also just found email correspondence with CEDD, while they worked on Long Valley. www.hkoutdoors.com/long-valley-...

The future is here and it's run by idiots. www.facebook.com/FearAndLoath...

Brown Shrike, Cheung Chau, HK today

Parcels of all types from mainland #China and #HongKong are now being blocked from entering the #US, according to the US Postal Service. No explanation was given why this ban has been imposed "until further notice" but could be to allow a tariff-charging system be put into place?

//Democrats have not shown a set of social values, or a theory of governance, or anything like a commitment to principle. They have not stood up for targeted groups, or articulated a real vision of democracy// www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

People feeding, watching and photographing Black-headed Gulls, Wigeon and Shoveler - and a Black-faced Spoonbill flypast - at Shenzhen Bay Haiyun Park. Almost unimaginable when I first came to China; only time I've seen Wigeon and Shoveler quite like this.

Time to dig this classic out. Sigh.

Chill for hk early next week! And warm days soon after

Mae Ya Waterfall, especially impressive in rainy season. Doi Inthanon; quite some months ago now.

In the movie The Blues Brothers, a live music bar owner says, “Oh we got both kinds of music,” he replies. “Country … and western.” And that rather echoes my impressions of Long Valley Nature Park. www.hkoutdoors.com/long-valley-...

I will not be attending Trump's inauguration.

//planetary overheating is really just the most geophysical symptom of extractive colonial capitalism – “billionairism” – a system designed to pump wealth from the poor to the rich// www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I noticed!

As Hong Kong promotes panda economy and smiling to attract tourists...

England: North vs South right now! (No sign of any snow here on the border of West and South Yorkshire. Anyone else?)

Black-throated Tit at Dongting Lake, Hunan, a few days ago. Happy New Year!

America has 815 billionaires as of this year. Collectively they have a record $6.7 trillion in wealth. The bottom 50% of Americans control $3.7 trillion in wealth. When 815 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Your 'moment of doom' for Dec. 24, 2024 ~ A storm is threatening. "By criminalising activists, states depoliticise them. This conceals the fact these activists are ultimately right about the state of the climate and environment— and the lack of positive government action in these areas."

Another re-edit; Mae Ya Waterfall near Chiang Mai, in full flow during rainy season.

Just playing this again. Magnificent album. www.metacritic.com/music/songs-...

Concept image for Hong Kong Panda Frenzy 2

After a friend remarked re HK Tourism Board press release - “Spread the giant panda frenzy” sounds like a slogan for the development of a new, highly infectious respiratory virus lol - I thought I'd see what Grok could do. Giant Panda Frenzy movie coming soon... No Kung Fu, just fencing and frenzy.

Sunset from Tai O, Lantau, a few years ago.

While I post almost noting on bluesky, I notice followers adding. So here, a post at last; couple of shots of sulphur miners at Kawah Ijen, east Java, a little over a decade ago. They start mining pre-dawn, near vents of superheated steam including sulphur that ignites with blue flames.

Yorkshire on top 🌍 Joe Root and Harry Brook are leading the way in the ICC's Test batting rankings 👏🏏

The world’s richest 1% have more wealth than the bottom 95% put together, according to Oxfam. There is no moral justification for this extraordinary level of inequality. It's distorting politics, rigging our markets, and granting unprecedented power to a handful of people.
