A fan of a certain age, or a greying geek if you will. I grew up with and still love old-school Sci-Fi and Telefantasy from the 1960s and '70s (some of that newfangled '80s stuff too). https://afanofacertainage.wordpress.com

Just finished watching The Time Tunnel episode, 'Chase Through Time,' and I got to wondering if guest star Vitina Marcus is still with us. Turns out she is and it was actually her 88th birthday yesterday! #TheTimeTunnel #VitinaMarcus #JamesDarren #RetroSciFi #IrwinAllen

Happy Birthday to Dirk Benedict. Hard to believe (at least it is for me), but Starbuck is 80 yahrens old today! #BattlestarGalactica #DirkBenedict #RetroSciFi

"Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe." - Lex Luthor as played by Gene Hackman in Superman the Movie.

Will these reboots, IF they happen, manage to capture the spirit and the charm of the original series? Stay tuned. #LandOfTheGiants #TheTimeTunnel #IrwinAllen #VoyageToTheBottomOfTheSea deadline.com/2025/02/akiv...

Who is Number One? Sixty-one years ago, Number 100 and Number 2 tried to convince the Doctor he was in 13th century Cathay rather than The Village. #DoctorWho #WilliamHartnell #ThePrisoner

Friday, 15th February, 1974 Elisabeth Sladen and a slightly shabby Cyberman join Tom Baker on the patio outside the BBC Television Centre restaurant as the new Doctor is introduced to the press. #DoctorWho #TomBaker #LisSladen

11 February, 1938: The first attempt at television science fiction aired - a BBC adaptation of Karel Čapek's Rossum’s Universal Robots. And, no, I'm am not old enough to remember watching it! 😀

Happy Birthday to Peter Purves. Although he's best remembered by my generation as a Blue Peter presenter, before that Purves played the 1st Doctor's companion Steven Taylor. Here he is in *that* sweater from 'The Celestial Toymaker.' #DoctorWho #PeterPurves

Before he hit the big time, John Williams was Johnny Williams, and he composed the theme tunes for Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants. Here he is with the creator of those series, Irwin Allen. Happy Birthday, Johnny... John... Mr Williams... Sir!

My honest review of The Time Tunnel: The Nightmare Begins, from Big Finish. #TheTimeTunnel #BigFinish #TimeTunnel afanofacertainage.wordpress.com/2025/02/07/r...

"No! If you are going to do it, do it right! I'll show you! You understand? For Victory! Go tell your friends!"

Happy Birthday to Gary Conway, a.k.a. Captain Steve Burton from Land of the Giants, a TV series that is very special to me. As a boy I was terrorised by a 'giant' of my own - a drunken and violently abusive father. Watching the diminutive Earthlings win through each week gave me hope.

3rd February, 1966 Publicity photograph of Jackie Lane, William Hartnell and Peter Purves on the jungle set of 'The Ark,' at Ealing Film Studio. #DoctorWho

Another lazy Sunday spent reliving my youth, sitting at the kitchen table with a glass of cola and a Superman comic. Published in 1970, 'The Secret of the Superman Imposter' is a favourite story from my childhood, and Curt Swan's memorable cover art for issue 225 has stayed with me all these years.

26th January, 1965 A Dalek confronts an elephant at Belle Vue Circus, Manchester. Belle Vue wasn't an excessively long bus journey from where I lived at the time, but I missed out on this. Mind you, I was barely two years old at the time. #DoctorWho #Daleks

My honest review of Big Finish's updated and relocated adaptation of the V mini-series from 1983. #BigFinish #V afanofacertainage.wordpress.com/2025/01/25/v...

Happy 75th Birthday to Richard Dean Anderson. #RichardDeanAnderson #StargateSG1 #Stargate

Just another day in the Land of the Giants. Pages from the Land of the Giants colouring book, Whitman Publishing, 1969. #LandOfTheGiants #IrwinAllen

Just started rewatching V. (With apologies to friends in the U.S. who are just about to start reliving V.)

As much as I hate being old, I am so grateful that my personal time-stream lined up with Tom Baker's, and that I got to watch him play the Doctor on Saturday nights in the 1970s. Happy Birthday, Tom, and thanks for the wonderful childhood memories. #DoctorWho #TomBaker

Issue 1 of Joe 90: Special Agent comic, cover-dated 18th January, 1969. In my personal history of being a geek, this comic is an important milestone. It's where I was first introduced to Star Trek and Land of the Giants, two Sci-Fi series that have had a major (and very positive) effect on my life.

Very sorry to hear that Christopher Benjamin has passed away. Some of you will know him best as Henry Gordon Jago from the classic Doctor Who story, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, He was also in 3 (count 'em, THREE!) episodes of The Prisoner.' Not just a very fine actor but a splendid gentleman too.

Another favourite cover from my childhood, Action Comics issue 408. This issue was published January, 1972, but it would have taken a couple of months longer to arrive on British shores. Still, the cover evoked memories of 1970's Apollo 13 crisis, which was recent history to me back then.

12th January, 1966 The Batman TV series premiered on ABC starring Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin. The first episode, "Hi Diddle Riddle," pitted the Dynamic Duo against the self-styled 'Count of Conundrums,' the Riddler (Frank Gorshin). #Batman66 #AdamWest

LAND OF THE GIANTS Gold Key comic issue 2 January, 1969 Artist: Tom Gill

"No, citizen... Gotham, 1966."

“How does a nightmare begin?” THE INVADERS, starring Roy Thinnes as alien bothering 'architect' David Vincent began on 10th January, 1967. On a personal note, it was also the first live-action television series I saw in colour (I'd already seen a colour episode of the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon).

9th January, 1966 William Hartnell, having just celebrated his 58th birthday the previous day, is transformed into the Doctor by Make up artist Sonia Markham. #DoctorWho #WilliamHartnell
