Most unfortunate.

There are many different types of medical "trial" - ranging from "anecdotal" up to the Gold Standard (double-blind, controlled, randomised, cross-over - and with large numbers). I am not sure, but I think that Mr Gibson's "trial" falls into the weakest category - anecdote.

The benefits are still controversial. The known side effects includes cancers, immune reactions and infections. Old medical saying, "Don't be the first to try a new treatment, but don't be the last." I personally would wait, and watch carefully - and do nothing in a benign and masterful manner.
