👍 Très bonne initiative. Données perdues = millions gaspillés = opportunités gâchées pour l'avenir.

Global ecology 🌐 has greater impact when translated to the regional level. We did this in the book below (lc.cx/78JgY7), written in French and focused on #Quebec 🇨🇦, which I’m using this winter to teach climate change biology at #UQAR.

Times are changing. Last week, I presented to the personnel of the Canadian Department of National Defense how our #UQAR ecological #science at Canadian Forces Station Alert (Ellesmere Island, Nunavut) helps project #Canadian #Sovereignty in the #Arctic.

I just signed. As a minimum, let's see Canadian gov't, university, science and NGO accounts get off! you.leadnow.ca/petitions/ba... you.leadnow.ca/petitions/ba...

"I worked >63 hrs/wk on average."

The words “climate change” are now forbidden at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Although members of the sea-going force confront the impacts of warming daily, Academy officials say they made the curriculum changes to comply with Trump administration policy.

Cattle Egret meets tailless cattle. My 18-year-old son took this picture in January 2024, during our first road trip together 🚗, from the province of Quebec to the oblast of Florida. Didn’t realize before that #Florida, #Canada, and #Russia were so close 😅.

To PhD students preparing their thesis defense: pour the biographies and publications of your committee members into ChatGPT, create digital mimics, then feed them your thesis and ask the program to question you as your committee might. Let me know if it works! See: lc.cx/hhHWhZ.

We are one of 48 scientific society signatories on a letter from the Union of Concerned Scientists calling on Congress to take action to support federal research funding, and oppose cuts to workforces of federal science and funding agencies. www.ucsusa.org/about/news/s...

Today, I signed an Open Letter from Canadians to stand with the #StandUpForScience movement and show support for our American colleagues. If you're Canadian, sign here: lc.cx/h0BIEK. Below: from my recent visit to the great Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Ithaca, NY.

Distressing news from the US today: 880 NOAA staff fired. From a polar bear perspective, NOAA data is used extensively in analyses. Impacts of losing this expertise is hard to fathom. Short-sighted & a mistake. www.bbc.com/news/article... @zacklabe.com has provided incredibly valuable insights.

As a research ecologist, I believe spending time in the field is crucial for building solid hypotheses 🔍, interpreting data wisely 📊, fostering team spirit 🤝, staying fit 🏃‍♀️, reducing stress 😌, nurturing student interactions 👩‍🔬, and remembering why I do this job! 💡 lc.cx/m7tCnH

🌍 I highly recommend following the thread below if you're interested in the complex process behind the creation of the next (AR7) IPCC report. The current state of American politics makes this task very challenging, hindering progress on global climate action.

"...there are principles around which all scientists unite—those of evidence, independence, process, and inclusion. These common values must now propel everyone in the scientific community to work together as never before to stand up for science." H. Holden Thorp. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

A nice day in a professor's life is when one of your students makes a discovery! 🙌 Last week, my #UQAR PhD student Ludovic Landry-Ducharme found that accelerometry can detect when Arctic hares are vigilant. Lots of work ahead now to turn this into a publication ✍️.

J'ai témoigné ici: ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/214...

Fellow Mammalogists. As many of you are aware, science is in a state of turmoil in the United States. Recent efforts to drastically reduce government workforces and research funding for science will lead to many adverse consequences for Earth’s remaining natural ecosystems.

The Trump administration today fired at least 2,300 federal workers at the Department of the Interior, including 1,000 National Park Service employees, 800 Bureau of Land Management employees and 400 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employees — or 4% of the agency’s entire workforce. biodiv.us/40RNlUk
