In celebration of #InternationalWomensDay last Saturday, we are proud to highlight that 50% of the project leaders in our SFB 1381 are women. To learn more about our female scientists, weΒ΄ll be featuring them in an upcoming series titled SFB 1381’s female minds. Stay tuned for upcoming posts!

Just finished my final News & Views for @plantphys.bsky.social with a friend as co-author πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬ We wrote about specialized roles of phytohormone precursors reported by scientists from @cbgpmadrid.bsky.social 🌱

Are you searching for a #PlantScience PhD? You can apply until the 9th of March and join one of our research groups within the department!

5 days left to join us in Freiburg for a #PhD position through the [email protected] funded program. Consider applying and join me or @kleinevehnlab.bsky.social and our amazing @dompsfr.bsky.social @biologyunifreiburg.bsky.social community. www.sgbm.uni-freiburg.de/node/1847

Today at our Plant Science Seminar @sarahorvath.bsky.social (from @lauraragni.bsky.social lab) was talking about root barrier development. They identified a WRKY transcription factor as a potential novel regulator in this process, which may also be involved in passage cell formation.

Today we heard how Phytochromes and Phytochrome-Interacting Factors are involved in light-mediated seedling development in rice from Catarina Monteiro (@plantphotobiology.bsky.social Lab). OsPIF15 and OsPIF16 are the key regulators, and they are controlled by Osphys.

Open call for DAAD funded PhD students of our graduate school of biology and medicine @uni-freiburg.de Please apply, if you are interested in joining us or one of our fantastic colleagues! www.daad.de/en/studying-...

On our way to #MBP2025 with a strong representation of our @dompsfr.bsky.social @biologyunifreiburg.bsky.social #plantscience community 🌱 Looking forward!

At this week's Plant Science Seminar @putriningrum.bsky.social (@plantphotobiology.bsky.social lab) aims to clarify GID1's role in shade avoidance through the DELLA-independent GA perception pathway. Bring your own mug, we will provide β˜• and πŸͺ. See you tomorrow at 10:15 in KS 00.009.

We heard today a round story about Production of HPV16 L1 virus-like particles (VLP) in Physcomitrella photobioreactors from Alex Niederau (from @reskilab.bsky.social). The chloroplast transit peptide sequence increased the yield of pL1 and dis- and reassembly resulted in the correct VLP structure.

Back to her roots at @biologyunifreiburg.bsky.social. Beautiful talk by Caroline Gutjahr in our @dompsfr.bsky.social seminar series. I especially liked the focus on ethylene signalling πŸ™‚ #plantscience

At this week's Plant Science Seminar @jessenlab.bsky.social (from the Faculty of Chemistry at @uni-freiburg.de) will provide us the chemistΒ΄s perspective on inositol pyrophosphates in plant phosphate homeostasis. Bring your own mug, we will provide β˜• and πŸͺ. See you tomorrow at 10:15 in KS 00.009.

Another #Spotlight on our #NextGenSignallingScientists! Next up is Ann-Kathrin Râßling, giving us a glimpse of her studies of signalling mechanisms in plants and of her skill in building bridges to the invisible molecular world through #ScientificIllustration. Discover her story: kurzlinks.de/u9yp

Mark your calendars for next Tuesday: Tel Aviv University's Prof. Eilon Shani will present a #CRISPR -based toolkit that targets multiple genes at a genome-wide scale, addressing functional overlap in genetic systems and to uncover hidden mechanisms behind hormone transport. kurzlinks.de/fprn

It's been a pleasure visiting @dompsfr.bsky.social. Such a fun and curiosity-driven #plantscience community! 🀩 Thank you @lauraragni.bsky.social for the invitation, and everyone for the warm hospitality πŸ™

Full house on our first departmental seminar this year. Which biopolymer is your favorite? If you ask @lauraragni.bsky.social it's suberin and lignin, if you ask @reskilab.bsky.social he will say sporopollenin and cutin, but in the opinion of @huguesrenault.bsky.social all four of them!

Great to kick off our @dompsfr.bsky.social seminar series with @huguesrenault.bsky.social this year, on key players in biopolymer formation that allowed terrestrialization 🌱 #plantscience

Mind blowing seminar by @nikogeldner.bsky.social at our @dompsfr.bsky.social seminar today. Thanks for visiting us in Freiburg!

Today at 2 PM you can listen to Chengzhi Ren's presentation from our DOMPS community.

Bacterial microniche formation on root surfaces Tomorrow @nikogeldner.bsky.social from @unil.bsky.social is coming to visit and we will have a special DOMPS seminar on a Wednesday. See you tomorrow at 11:00 in the KHS.

Flooding events are becoming increasingly common worldwide, therefore the research of @aidamaric.bsky.social is essential to understand the epigenetics caused by flooding stress. Plants primed by submergence or hypoxia show higher survival rates than naive plants under the second stress.

At this week's Plant Science Seminar @aidamaric.bsky.social (@sjonhartman.bsky.social lab) will talk about epigenetic factors regulating flood stress memory in plants. Bring your own mug, we will provide β˜• and πŸͺ. See you tomorrow at 10:15 in KS 00.009.

Protein-wiggle, this is how plants sense elevated temperature based on @wigge.bsky.social's engaging lecture today at the @cibss.bsky.social Seminar Series. It was great to see the results from the collaboration with @plantphotobiology.bsky.social and @corneliaklose.bsky.social .

Join tomorrow's #CIBSS Seminar with @wigge.bsky.social from @igzleibniz.bsky.social, who will explore how plants sense temperature. πŸ—“οΈ 10.12.2024, 12:00–13:00 πŸ“ SR UG: -1.026, Hilde-Mangold-Haus, @uni-freiburg.de (hybrid) πŸ”— kurzlinks.de/p8w0

Some like it hot: temperature sensing in plants We were delighted to invite @wigge.bsky.social to be a speaker for the CIBSS seminar series. Phil is one of the leading scientists in the field of temperature sensing in plants. See you tomorrow at 12 PM in the Biology I Lecture Hall
