For your Sunday reading, I did a nice and detailed interview about CRYBABY and BOOK OF MAC. Enjoy. open.substack.com/pub/chrisdal...

Taking one intentional photo per day to reconnect with my photography. More on this in my newsletter tomorrow.

Finally starting Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies. The original board game campaign was one of our absolute favorites.

My first game of Finspan solo. Very fun! This is a smooth system. The bot runs itself with minimal rules intervention. Yes, this is the lightest 'Span game, but it is also the most streamlined. Happy this is the one I own. #soloboardgame

Since the Phillies play a baseball game today, it's time for me to resume my yearly tradition of the "jersey chair." That is, I keep all of my jerseys on a dining room chair, and rotate them based on win streaks. At the end of the season, they get put away. But we are back!

Many writers know about the Pomodoro technique for getting work done. Enter the Pomodorini, or “tiny tomato” technique, from Emma Olive Billington.

Played a 2p game of Dreadful Meadows with my wife tonight. Very close, but I squeaked out a win at 42 points to her 39. Dreadful Meadows is a happy accident of a board game purchase for us. I got it for 2p, discovered I loved the solo, and it's since become a weeknight staple.

Oh, look! It's me, still obsessed with how my new book looks at sunset. CRYBABY in good light. Nothing better.

A rare "I'm proud of this one" repost. Looking at these early pages of my upcoming book from Stanchion put a lot into perspective this week.

This interview comes out Sunday and is very fun!

Love growing little tomatoes in the living room.

CRYBABY has been a Top New Release all week. Really heartening. I have another interview about the project coming soon, if you're curious about the inner workings of my author brain.

Getting back to my morning writing routine next week. It's taken me 10 years of professional writing to accept that planned breaks are good for me.

Loving the inspiration today goddammit!

Today is Khan's 16th birthday. He is a champion. Trips to the ER vet cannot stop him. He is the best cat.

Today is my baby cat's 16th birthday and yes there will be a photoshoot.

Stoked that @stanchion.bsky.social, a dream journal, is my first acceptance of 2025, for the brand new Elegant Variations weekly feature! Cheers EIC Jeff for all he does for the community. I know my writing is in the best of hands. An aside, this was by far the quickest I've been paid for a poem.

Found my first three sets of notes for CRYBABY. All dated 2022. All written on a typewriter. Magical that this book now exists as a published text.

I love when the cat looks like she's been assembled incorrectly.

A lot of new followers here, hello! I write nonfiction and fiction. My latest book is out now. It's called CRYBABY and it's about emo rap. My forthcoming novelette about grief and friendship, and the power of stories is out Oct 7. You can learn more below. www.stanchionzine.com/product-page...

Today's little newsletter dispatch is all about the soul of creativity: being extremely curious. Talking to myself and asking questions is a key part of being a writer. Also includes pics of carrot cake. donnacwrites.substack.com/p/anything-g...

Blurb requests are out in the world for my novelette about male friendship, grief, spaceships, and the power of memories. Nervous and excited! Shouldn't We Dance? is out Oct 7 from @stanchion.bsky.social and you can pre-order a copy below. www.stanchionzine.com/product-page...

Every Sunday morning, two older men loudly talk about the Eagles on the opposite corner from my house. I hope the parade made them beyond happy.

Nothing says Valentine's Day weekend like a trip to the Home Depot garden center.

I have seen no less than 5 groups of people walking to the Philly Art Museum in their Eagles gear, with at least one person per group dressed as an eagle, like the bird. Love this place. Go Birds.

Today's newsletter is about my road to enjoying music again after writing entirely too many articles about music in the span of 8 years. donnacwrites.substack.com/p/how-to-enj...

Sitting by the fire while it snows in Philly, listening to some new music. Ghais Guevara is a top artist for me right now. The new ZelooperZ record is also tight. And we've got some Japanese jazz on deck because I can't stop being insufferable in my tastes.

Ah, yes, another morning shouting about my small press book coming out in October from @stanchion.bsky.social! Shouldn't We Dance? is about friendship, grief, writing, and spaceships. I hope you'll consider a pre-order. They mean very much to an author. www.stanchionzine.com/product-page...

53,486 words later, my MG novel draft is in my agent's hands. To feel angst until I get feedback.

My favorite part of the Super Bowl was not the game itself but rather the photos from our Pop-Pop's assisted living home where everyone in their 80s and 90s was cheering the Eagles with tiny pompoms.

It's embarrassing that anyone would stay that Kendrick Lamar's Superbowl show was incomprehensible. Hip hop has been with us for half a century. Let's not waste time with a spurious argument, there's plenty of worthwhile stuff to fight about right now

SO excited for this one! For it to come out, for y'all to read it, to get to work with @autofocusbooks.bsky.social again.

One of those days where you work 13 hours, drink half a beer, and get in bed with a book.

Calling all gold dust women! This is no Rumour(s): I’m thrilled to have manifested a dream(s) book on the incomparable shawl queen herself, Stevie Nicks. I am twirling and shaking a tambourine in anticipation! #stevienicks #bookstagram #fleetwoodmac #authorsofinstagram

My book SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS: The Complete Cultural History of the Indie Rock Explosion is now available for pre-order! Out 8/26 via St. Martin's Press. Pre-orders are so important for a book’s success, and I’m so appreciative for the early support. ➡️➡️➡️ read.macmillan.com/lp/such-grea...

So very close to finishing the read-through and final touches on the Draft 0 of this middle grade adventure. The writing is at least a little good. Perhaps decent. Maybe more. But so, so much fun.
