In response to the emergence of H5N1 influenza A viruses as a novel pathogen of cattle, a study in Nature Communications shows that pasteurisation of cows’ milk should effectively inactivate the virus, but that it remains infectious in unpasteurised milk. https://go.nature.com/3WRQ8fb 🧪

What could we say about it? Congratulations, mankind. We’re going to pay for our stupid attitude. Business, nations and politicians pulling down on climate change commitments will be our doom. youtube.com/watch?v=I3sg... 🧪

#EconSky 👇 1/27

If only MAGA fans and the like would open their ears for once, perhaps we would not deal with certain politicians… #climatechange

A new preprint is out! 🚨 We show that trace metal availability directly controls microbial metabolism, forcing cells to shift to less efficient energy pathways—even when better electron acceptors are available! ⚡🔬1/6 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... @biorxiv-microbiol.bsky.social

Ignorance begets hate begents ignorance… many Trump voters doesn’t even know they are going to pay more for stuff they paid less till last year. I wonder who they are going to blame for the price increase in the coming months. Immigrants I suppose. youtube.com/watch?v=1Fpb...

Some 6 reasons why climate change is due to human activities rather than… any other fantasy explanation that climate change deniers come up with. #science 🧪 #climatechange youtube.com/watch?v=J1KG...

I don't want to start the year RT-ing every nasty thing Musk says. But this, plus his post about Jess Phillips, are national security issues for the UK and deserve to be dealt with accordingly by @ukparliament.parliament.uk.

Bad news don’t stop: current climate models too optimistc and the blame will go to the scientists of course. Low lying clouds being affected by heat might be the reason behind 2023 heat surge. This is bad indeed. #climatechange #science 🧪https://youtube.com/watch?v=P6EMJlt_Dsw

Many many people still underestimate the risks and don’t grasp the expanse of their own ignorance. They are ready to put the blame on some not yet defined “class” of people, though. It’s always someone else’s fault, right? #climatechange #future

This is my Scholar statistics from 2015. I left my post-doc position in late 2020 and… it seems that ~89% of citations arrived in the 2020-2024 break. After I left academia. Numbers are falling and will continue to do so, of course, but I expected they would fall to zero within 2-3 years… #research

The use of AI getting out of control is one of the most predictable and saddest news. All of this for what, precisely? Saving money?

Poor Santa. #christmas2024

After the idiotic post “only AfD could save Germany”, I believe I reached the limit of my patience. I am a no one for sure, but I can’t bear to be on a platform managed by such a d*mbass. Enough is enough.

So disappointed this movie did not become for astronomy and physics what Jurassic Park became for paleontology. This scene is incredible. #movie #science youtube.com/watch?v=u-El...

Last book read: The Last Days of the Dinosaurs by Riley Black. Some negative reviews made me kinda nervous, but Riley has written another good book about dinosaurs. For Dino enthusiasts like me, it’s a solid entry. 📚💙🧪 #science #paleontology #life #evolution www.goodreads.com/book/show/65...

Just finished rewatching “Don’t Look Up”. I stand my case, it is the most faithful representation of our society and my fear is that our future will be far more bleak than our past. After all we take decisions mainly on the base of economic convenience. Hold on to your butts.

One of my students draw a funny, 1 page, comic about me and them during my classes. Sometimes you see you've got the affection of your students by the way they consider your as part of their life. The more I think about that drawing, the more I am happy about my job.

It’s a shame I never finished reading this book years ago. Being caught in a maelstrom of events that changed my life, I put this book away and almost forgot it. It might be dated, but it’s unfortunately still valid. I have started to read it - actually, to study it - again from the beginning. 📚💙

Music time: the new LP song, "Two Faced", is an authentic throwback which will, I suppose, please old fans. I wonder, though, if its style will charm current listeners. youtu.be/kivUsDGWojU?... #music #rock

Exodus from X could potentially enhance polarization among platforms, with X definitely becoming a digital dump of disinformation, racism, fascism and anti-science. Kind of a closed realm, a vortex of self-sustained idiocy. I wonder if that might have consequences on society at large.

The last book about WWI on the Eastern Front. After some 1000 (and more) pages of history as never read before, this last entry will describe the ruinous end of three dynasties and the events that shaped the trembling democracies of East Europe of the 20s and 30s. 💙📚

As a teacher, I am slowly losing faith in the goodwill of my students towards learning. I believe this due to lack of interest/enthusiasm, in general. It’s sad. Love for knowledge is what pushes us forward, it’s characteristic of us as a species. Leave that and what remains? I am worried.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology... Into 2017 with "The Constant Threat," featuring Borealopelta, for the Royal Tyrrell Museum. This press release piece was an honour to create but a perfect storm of obstacles to overcome. It was a tough one. #PaleoArt #SciArt #SciComm #Dinosaurs #JurassicWorld

"There is only one way this war ends. Last man standing". 1917 is one of the most important movies about WWI, not so much for the story itself, but because of the cinematography in general, and the acting in particular. A gem, in an epoch of mediocre Hollywood trash. youtu.be/YROAHcWiTpA?...

Godzilla Minus One is a gem. Not a fan on monster movies, but geez, this one is quite a ride. Budget was low, but visually the it is wonderful. Great story, great characters. I love everything of this movie! #movie
