A couple of notes: 1) Biden may be old, but he is still sharp as a tack. Dismissing him as old guard is stupid. 2)Seeing Bernie/AOC draw huge crowds does not mean Republicans are there. Only decision that matters is what that audience does in a voting booth alone, not in a crowd or a poll.

@tnbrando.bsky.social we have seen President's defy Court orders before. Jackson defied them over the Creek Indian issue and got away with it. Nixon defied the Court over the tapes but eventually caved and secured his downfall. What will Trump do? What will the Natl Guard do?

Our country could be decided by how our own Army reacts. If the Court sends marshals to arrest Trump for contempt, and Trump tells them to stand down, the next step would be Natl Guard. How they react will determine what type of govt we have going forward. Markets would crash all over the world.

If Trump refuses to follow the Court, MAGA will cheer him loudly. Megan Kelly and Sean Hannity know full well the effect that would have on our Democracy. Would they support or reject that? The Court could order him jailed for contempt. Then, it comes down to the Army/Natl Guard.

Trump's refusal to follow the Court is not without precedent. Andrew Jackson did the same concerning the Seminole Indians. Nixon did the same with the Wategate tapes. The entire country went on edge for a week until Nixon relented. What will Trump do? He knows if he caves, he loses MAGA.

The second Trump presidency is having a similar effect on Anerican psyche and culture that our own Civil War had 160 years ago. It is redefining what we thought were sacrosanct rules and relationships. Without a shot fired, we have a better understanding of what reconstruction felt like.

We now know how intellectual Germany felt in 1936. We never understood before because everyone learns history in the abstract rather then the real. Our reaction is normal because we are all in shock. We laughed at countries with autotocratic regimes before. Now we know how they became one.

I read reporter William L Shirer's Pulitzer winning The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich 40 years ago. It was a list of what happened nearly day by day. The question he never answered was how they did not know? What DT's election has done is made me understand that how, and why. It's clear now.

Frankly, shuttling deportees into camps to be deported back home countries they spent their life savings leaving to find better lives in the US is not only immoral, but equivalent to death camps. DT didn't pull the trigger or turn on the furnace as AH did, but the result will likely be the same.
