Brian, your genius shaped us all. We're just echoes of your brilliance. Forever thankful

6 years I’ve been trying to explain them that Kazakhstan has a huge lighting problem. In my city there’s not a single well-lit place left. Tokayev replaced proper lighting with harsh cold LEDs, damaging people’s well-being, animals, plants, safety, local business and the basic sense of comfort.

There’s no patriotism in dysfunctional, underdeveloped countries, just plain ressentiment from people used to live the way they do: in decay, cultural poverty, and where criminal behavior is normalized. The moment I hear “we’re better than…” I know there’s no point in continuing the conversation.

Never thought by 2025 all social media would be dead with Reddit the last one standing. I was never a big fan even though it’s always been the best source for real info. But if you want to dodge brainrot and the stupidity of boomers/zoomers, there’s basically nowhere else left online.

Spent Easter planting trees in my hood. Took over a month of rejections from the city and developers - same old “can’t do” crap. They call it whining, but somehow it keeps making life better for everyone. Dozens of neighbors had a great time planting top-quality saplings.

After meeting several people in leadership roles at development companies, I’ve realized there’s little use in trying to engage. Their confidence seems to grow in direct proportion to their lack of understanding, or even interest in gaining it.

In process of realizing I need to let go of this obsessive need to fix everything. Most things fall outside my orbit - not every broken piece is mine to fix.

The most disturbing possibility isn’t that millions have been brainwashed. It’s that they haven’t.

I mean, directors have been obsessed with casting the most out-of-place actors for ages. Nothing new here.

Obviously, the best rap release in recent times is Saba's masterpiece. But people are stuck discussing Carti’s dull garbage simply because social media forces even decent listeners to pay attention to crowd’s tastes.

Apple Music still lacks even basic search, let alone well-structured advanced algorithms or smart suggestions. On top of that the desktop version has a persistent glitch that skips parts of audio at certain seconds of each track. How can they talk about DJing with a service this bad?

Steve Duda replied to me today, sharing his thoughts on my feedback about the multisample oscillator. It’s great to see how much attention he gives to our community. Of course, Serum can keep evolving. But here’s what I’m thinking - maybe it’s time for Steve to consider developing a full-fledged DAW

Serum 2 is finally here. Some features in the multi-sample oscillator are still missing, but the progress so far is massive. The sampler section is hands down the best-sounding on the market. Huge thanks Duda.

Minimum parking requirements have always been and will always be completely anti-urban. In our country even at the presidential level anti-urban policies prevail – like mandating 1:1 parking for every building. And people in Threads and Facebook just echo it. There’s no demand for sanity at all.

I’ve had mixed feelings about Sam, but realizing he’s our guy.

On March 1, 2025 the music channel Gakku went off the air - almost 2 weeks ago now. It had a bright beginning and well-deserved success, but every story has its end. Sadly, the channel never found a new owner to give it a fresh start. And with that a whole new chapter of my life begins.

The first season of Severance was a real comfort when the war started and we found ourselves in a foreign country. Three years later, the second season is here - and it can’t hold my attention at all. Waiting three years for a show only to get something completely unwatchable.

I’ve always looked more toward Europe than the US - unlike my compatriots. My playlists are mostly European artists & producers, my idea of a modern urban environment and urban lifestyle is all about Europe, not the US. Even my recording gear is mostly European and Japanese. Nothing changed for me.

“Good Russians” kept repeating the false narrative that it’s Putin, not Russia, who attacked Ukraine. In the US, Trump’s opponents are doing something similar, separating his actions from what US really is. But “good Russians” at least have an excuse - no one really elected Putin, unlike Trump.

The Apprentice is a great film. I rarely watch movies on planes, but this 6-hour flight was made so much better by it. Perfectly captures a certain kind of people we all have to deal with. Nothing good ever comes from them in the end. It’s terrifying that people are willing to elect them to rule.

Once one big country already broke itself on Ukraine. And fixing it turned out impossible. Now we’re watching another great nation heading down the same path.

"I've actually seen and watched the stories" - the kind of garbage you’d expect from total assholes - made it all the way to the White House. Now every lowlife feels bold cause there’s a politician out there making their dumbest takes seem legit.

What “disrespect” are Americans talking about when their entire dialogue with Ukraine was built on humiliation and bullying, practically cornering Zelensky? They have no moral right to lecture anyone on respect and diplomacy.

So biased. In the study all liberals somehow turn out to be autocracy supporters, while left-leaning conservatives (yeah, pretty common for post-soviets), backing and echoing the current redistribution policy are suddenly labeled “reformers”. And it seems there’re no liberal democrats in KZ at all.

It always puzzled me how people in the early 2010s called Musk “new Steve Jobs”. We admired Jobs not just for his great products but for his thoughts, words, and vision. Musk never seemed interesting person at all, at any stage. He’s always been a hero for clueless boomers stuck in the XX century.

And where’s the lie?

On AI. I had to pull together several full drafts for a client unfamiliar with the music-making process. Away from the studio, without my KONTAKT HDD, AI rendering totally saved me. A year ago, I couldn’t imagine how comfortable it’d be to lock my ideas and deliver listenable drafts to the client.

For those of us in emerging countries, the US doesn’t feel like a moral guide or the leader of the developed world anymore. When we say "the West" now, we’re mostly thinking about Europe. Honestly, that feels like a change that should’ve happened a long time ago.

The only EQ I’d actually be excited to see as a plugin and compare to the hardware is my favorite Zähl EQ1

I've spent past couple of weeks researching national anthems for work, listening to literally everything. After months in Turkey, I can say – no anthem on earth sounds as thunderous and battle-ready. Can't get it out of my head.

Liberty was once our greatest value. We’ll never return to the freedom we had on the internet in the ’90-00s. Social media platforms don’t just limit freedom - it molds us into slaves of thought, all thinking alike.
