What we are seeing now is, in many ways, the end result of letting inequality (of wealth, sure, but more pointedly the power that comes with it) grow to the point that the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment is rendered laughable.

I don't want to pretend we ever lived in an "era of truth"("Gulf of Tonkin attack"?JFK's non-existent "missile gap"?Reagan's "Welfare Queen"?) but clearly it's far worse than ever now.One wonders if there's a survivable level of lies the system can still function with vs a "critical mass" amount.
