Birding since 1974 (came through the Glasgow YOC academy 😀 ). Happiest nowadays on the Clyde estuary at Longhaugh Point. Been following Partick Thistle for over 50 years. Married 30 years. Ich spreche auch ein bisschen Deutsch.

80 Pochard on Woodend Loch, Coatbridge this afternoon represented a good count for the Glasgow area these days. The drake Ring Necked Duck was also still present #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Adult Ring Billed Gull at Strathclyde Park this afternoon. #scottishbirding #ukbirding

23 Taiga Bean Geese near Slamannan this afternoon and the drake Smew at nearby Broadwood Loch #scottishbirding

Gadwalls at Caerlaverock WWT today #scottishbirding #ukbirding

My first visit to Longhaugh Point on the Clyde Estuary post storm. Very quiet bird wise and disappointing to see the damage done to several mature trees on the site. #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Very quiet on my Longhaugh patch this month so had time to nip over the Erskine Bridge to see the American Wigeon at Newshot Island. Not realising that the camera was on shutter priority mode rather than of aperture priority mode made for an even worse photo than normal. #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Good day in South Ayrshire today with PB Brent, Eider, RB Merg, GN Diver, RT Diver, Razorbill, L Stint, G Plover, Purp Sand to name a few #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Male Hen Harrier a few minutes ago at Longhaugh Point. Back of camera shot.

1,500 Pinks at a very cold Longhaugh Point on the Clyde estuary this morning. A single Barnacle Goose was also present in the flock. #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Caved in and went to see the Hawfinches at Lesmahagow. Soon after arriving a female was perched up for c10 minutes. The sun‘s position was not conducive for a photo. Spent a couple of hours at Hamilton Low Parks in the afternoon where 70 Gadwall was a good local count. #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Treacherous underfoot conditions at Hogganfield Loch in Glasgow this afternoon but a good selection of wildfowl including 116 Coot, 99 Mute Swan, 57 Tufted, 11 Whoopers & 4 Gadwall #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Strathclyde Loch this afternoon. Spot the Med Gull. #scottishbirding #ukbirding

A very wet 2 hour walk round Strathclyde Loch this morning yielded 25 species including a drake Pochard #scottishbirding #ukbirding

Stormy morning at Longhaugh Point on the Clyde estuary today with Greenshank being the pick of the bunch. That will be a wrap for 2024. 118 species for the year including 8 site year ticks bringing my overall total to 134. #ukbirding #scottishbirding

Quiet on the Longhaugh Point patch today. The high tide nonetheless produced 140 roosting Curlew and 75 Shelduck on the field pools. 2 Shoveler remained with the Wigeon on the estuary #ukbirding #scottishbirding

Dull and dreich at RSPB Baron‘s Haugh this morning. Pick of the bunch we’re 5 Green Sandpipers. Good also to see over 40 Redwing that have been scarce this autumn. #ukbirding #scottishbirding

Saw Sparrowhawk for my Longhaugh Point year list this morning. I had almost given up and was resigned to a dip this year however, despite the fog and winter conditions, I connected. Year list is now at 118. Also of note, 600 Pink Feet and almost certainly 2 Woodcock that I flushed in the woods

2 Peregrines were hunting the field pools this morning at Longhaugh Point. 8 Black Tailed Godwit remained on the estuary. The nearby rhubarb fields at Linwood continue to hold large numbers of small birds including 750+ Linnet. #ukbirding #scottishbirding

At the 2nd attempt, I managed to see around 125 Taiga Bean Geese near Slamannan this morning. A Golden Plover and 27 Fieldfare were also notable. Popped into RSPB Baron‘s Haugh on the way home where a Kingfisher was showing well. #ukbirding #birdingscotland

A wild goose chase at Slamannan this afternoon with no sign of any Taiga Bean Geese in a 2 hour search. 7 Whooper Swans at Hogganfield Loch in the morning were much more obliging #ukbirding #scottishbirding

A wheezing fly over Brambling at Longhaugh Point was my 2nd patch tick in as many weeks. Otherwise it was the usual suspects. #ukbirding #scottishbirding

2 Woodcocks at Longhaugh Point on the Clyde estuary this morning was the undoubted highlight of a very pleasant winter’s morning visit. Not a bird I see very often and for me a Longhaugh site tick. A leucistic Curlew remained in the wet fields. #ukbirding #scottishbirding

Twitched a Snow Goose near Lochwinnoch this morning. RSPB Lochwinnoch was quiet with only common ducks. Afternoon at the Linwood rhubarb fields where over 1,000 small birds are currently present (mostly Linnet & Skylark). Raptors present included Peregrine & Sparrowhawk #ukbirding #scottishbirding

First frosts of the winter made for a chilly visit to my patch at Longhaugh Point on the Clyde yesterday. Enjoyed sifting through c600 geese but saw nothing unusual. A possible Woodcock in the woods. Grey Plover remained on the shore along with both Pintail & Shoveler. #ukbirding #scottishbirding
