More pics from Cul-de-Sac… Places in the shade to relax and meet.

While I wait for the hikers, I get to check out one of my favourite car-free, mixed-use projects, called Cul-de-Sac, in Tempe Arizona. It is everything I had hoped it would be.

Another passage completed from Kelvin Bridge to Picket post trailhead. And now up through the Superstitions to Roosevelt Lake.

This is my favourite photo of the whole AZT hiking endeavour! A zero day in Tucson.

Another bit of a rest, a Nearo - which is not a full day off (a zero), but a night off of the trail. Stayed at the lovely General Kearny Inn In Kearny. That town really caters to the hikers. Every hiker gets a free donut and coffee at the local IGA.

As I wait for the hikers to re-emerge from the desert, I camp and I read. This is my best friend these days. Absolute spiritual brilliance without religiosity. The steps from longing to belonging.

Spending a couple of days at the lovely, well designed and beautifully old El Rancho Robles in Oracle, Arizona. A great place for a get away or day off of the AZ trail.

Ok, we are now in Oracle! Sonya has now joined Cathie on the hike. Tomorrow should be an easier day, but we will see. So here are a few photos of us all.

After Mt Lemmon, Cathie’s next stop was High Jinks Ranch, an old ranch once owned by Wild Bill Cody. And then it was also a set for 60s westerns - including one with Elizabeth Taylor.

Cathie hiking solo, enjoying streams in the desert and watching a crazy solo unicyclist do the AZT in an unorthodox fashion

This goes back a bit- it is the beginning of Cathie’s solo hiking as she gets closer to Tucson.

This was my first view in the morning from Mt Lemmon campsite. Cathie descends towards Oracle

Pork salivary glands, Lymph nodes and Fat…. It pays to read the contents before you pick up food at a truck stop. Maybe not tonight.

And part of these posts will be about the joys and “frustrations” I have as the trail support. Also, some of my dumber moments.

I thought I would start with the first real day of hiking the AZT, on March 11 (actually they did the first down and back of 1.8 miles to the Mexico border on the late afternoon of March 10). Some pics as they started out.

My wife, Cathie Lamont, and a girlfriend began hiking the Arizona Trail on March 11, 2025. Five girlfriends will join her at different points. I do trail support, resupply, and airport pick up/drop off. This will be a site to follow her progress. Feel free to give them your support.

Finding so many very friendly Americans, many of whom are whispering “I am sorry, very sorry”. Elbows up!
