The sleeper has just arrived at Reading on platform 7. The rear loco 57312 is about to be detached to await the up service which it will couple to the rear of later on. Upon departure, the Sunday down service is next stop Exeter.

@signaloftheday.bsky.social Here is T1639 at the country end of platform 4 at Twyford, routing onto the up relief in the down direction with an 'R'. A 'B' takes you to lovely Henley-on-Thames.

Love the new lit up artwork around the entrance to the subway outside Reading Station! 👍

'The Night Riviera' waits time under Brunel's magnificent train shed. LTV 'thunderbird' 57312 at the London end has brought the empty stock in from Reading depot and will catch a lift back as rear gunner.

Hopefully sense will prevail on this - we need this for growth🤞🤞🤞

I agree with this. It is a nice bridge, but not the loveliest. £250m to repair seems way too much. Demolish and start a fresh. Oh and get a bloody move on! youtube.com/watch?v=L-b_...

Excellent job from Sir Kier Starmer today at the start of PMQs. Judged and delivered perfectly. He's had a good week on the international stage, well done.

Great video on what will be a brilliant piece of infrastructure, though sadly one we won’t be able to fully utilize. Chris hits the nail on the head: "another example of how ill-thought-out Rishi Sunak's decision was." At least it’s being future-proofed for when HS2 eventually reaches Manchester.

Very impressive @reading-buses.co.uk network of services home from the Mad Stad. A really nice double decker almost dropped me at my door in Twyford rounding off a good night at the football - top job!

Great point for City tonight at Reading. Tough game, but we deserved something from it. Pretty poor attendance at the Mad Stad #ecfc

Good to see my local MP actively supporting this. It should be a condition of the third runway in my view and would really help reduce car journeys to Heathrow.

This brand new sign outside Reading Station annoys me for two reasons way more than it should!

We need to be doing much better at tackling this. There are some massive gaps close to me at stations that have supposedly been upgraded recently. Maidenhead being a particularly bad example on the down relief. www.bbc.com/news/article...

This should be a condition of the third runway. Brought to a 'controlled pause' in 2021 after £££ being spent on plans. Announced in 2012, it was due to open in 2020. Another case of us being terrible at building stuff, but good at spending on planning/consultations. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Great to see a new bus route launching through my village this week. I've lived in Twyford for 11+ years and we now have the best bus service ever! Carousel have made great improvements since taking over from Arriva. Hope it gets enough users to sustain it. www.carouselbuses.co.uk/services/CSL...

This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple. They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.

It was great coal, but they were charging full market rate for it. That rate was pretty high in the last year or two of operation. Where has all the money gone? I feel sorry for the local residents who, it seems, have been lies too. Not acceptable. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Great morning volunteering at Wallingford Station. Lots of projects progressing including the run round loop point being assembled in the car park and restoration of the 'Toad' brakevan.

Many saying a 100k army is unachievable, even after rising defense spending to 2.5% of GDP. Using back of a fag packet maths, if each soldier costs say £100k to employ per year (salary plus kit, accommodation, pension, back room support staff etc), then 100k costs £10bn a year.

First daffodils I've seen out in the 'wild' - hooray spring is on the way. My favorite flower and time of year!

Good news: actions have consequences. I definitely wouldn’t buy one now, and we’re probably getting an electric car this year -->> Tesla shares slump after European sales fall www.bbc.com/news/article...

Looks like they might green light the second runway at Gatwick too. Seems a massive shame and pretty short-sighted that rail infrastructure investment has been all but forgotten. If we're going for growth, HS2 to Manchester is a must in my view.

I don't like cutting the aid budget for defense spending. But I can see why this makes sense politically. Not sure everyone in the Labour party will be jumping for joy either.

Recovering from an epic Star Wars themed 6th birthday party for my son at the weekend (I was Dad Vader!)

They have some good presenters on 5 Live Drive, but they really need a bit more consistency. You never know who is going to be presenting from day to day!

We're right at the limit of the WSR here, next to the West of England mainline at Norton Fitzwarren.

Barnstaple Junction, taken from the brakevan today. The line to the left stretches for almost three quarters of a mile along the former Barnstaple branch, as far as Allerford bridge and forms one side of the impressive turning triangle. Head right at line speed for sunny Minehead!

Over 500 tons of ballast in the carpark at BL, destined for a relay taking place at Tribble bridge, where there was a minor landslide a couple of years ago.

A featherweight load for D6575 today on the training run from BL - NF

Just finished a very informative practical training day on the WSR. Highlight was a trip on the Norton section in a brake van to refresh the route and use of the intermediate token instrument.

Well done Sir Kier. Exactly what is required after the latest exhalation from the orange one - Starmer backs Zelensky after Trump 'dictator' claim www.bbc.com/news/article...

Really enjoying listening to Richard Allinson standing in for Ken Bruce. A brilliant broadcaster that I have really fond memories of on Radio 2.

This isn't supposed to be here! 57312 taking a break in platform 1 at Reading during the morning peak. I suspect something has gone wrong.

Exhilarating walk up Corn Do in the Brecon Beacons today. Really proud of this little fella who was an absolute trooper! Now for a well earned pizza and a pint of Brains in Cardiff.

The difference between these two trains is truly game changing. Rail travel around South Wales is being transformed at the moment and I'm really excited about the huge passenger growth which I'm sure is about to happen!

Just finished an interesting training WSR day where we were issued with the new rule book. Also delighted to receive my long service award which includes a lifetime travel pass - nice touch! Always great to catch up with railway friends too.

Heading west for my first trip of the year to West Somerset! Looking forward to catching up with railway friends in Minehead tonight ahead of our training day tomorrow.

One of my favourite sketches ever. Been rewatching quite a bit of 'That Mitchell and Webb Look' recently, which I feel is underrated. I think they warrant national treasure status. youtu.be/MusyO7J2inM?...

A memorable day firing 4612 on the Wallingford branch back in summer 2021 on a photo charter with driver Dave B

Well done Exeter City, you did us proud tonight. Great night at my local with my Dad and Godfather (Forrest fan), even though it went on much longer than we thought possible!

I keep giving American Football a try. But every time I come to the same conclusion - Rugby is more free flowing and exciting. The England vs France game on Saturday being the perfect example of this!

Lemur!
