The worst part of this Unity debacle is that it's a fantastic piece of software built by very talented and dedicated developers. Until this week, if anyone asked me what game engine they should learn, my answer would have been Unity. Without some severe backpedaling and contrition, it won't be now.

For Unity to impose a per-install fee on games already built and *shipped*, where your choice is to either pay the fee in perpetuity or pull your game from the market, feels tantamount to extortion. Anyone claiming the fee structure is "not that bad" is missing the point.
