Please give our Public Involvement initiative a follow. We're running events in Nottingham throughout the year to bring the public into science to help us communicate it better and improve the impact of our work so it benefits them! #ScienceSky

What is LEAP? Listen, Engage and Analyse with the Public. We're a public involvement initiative out of Nottingham Trent Uni. Give your opinion on our research ideas! Help us make science communication more accessible! Become a public contributor to our research! Tell us your lived experiences!

We're following up our lanuch event in Jan with our first focused public involvement event on metabolism (20th March) Come and listen to our research and provide feedback on it and the direction Tell us you lived experiences Would you like to be involved? Become a public contributor! #sciencesky

New pre-print!!! What types of genes end up on plasmids and why? The take home message of this paper is that beneficial genes move from plasmids to chromosome, causing the ecological value of plasmids to decay over time. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

What is JNE's main strength? "Society-owned journals allow scientists to be in control of publishing research that serves science and society." #LoveMyJNE @rebeccadumbell.bsky.social chatted with JNE Editor-in-Chief @mikelehman.bsky.social to find out more:

I need help, I have had a couple of comments that my research vision/plans lack novelty, but I really dont know anyone that is currently doing what I have planned, so I am very confused. Anyone happy to give an unbiased judgement??

🚨 We are hiring for a 3-yr PDRA 🚨 The Whelan lab is seeking a microbiologist interested in microbe-pathogen competition and use of a Drosophila melanogaster chronic infection model to investigate the cystic fibrosis lung microbiome. We're running our introductory/launch event for LEAP tonight, unfortunately I can't attend as I'm full of a cold (not great look to start a super spreader event). Though LEAP we hope to bring in more public participation into our research, to find out more and keep up to date follow our BlueSky...

Tonight is our launch event for LEAP! We're going to be introducing the different topics and events and introduce everyone to the initiative!! Wish us luck, we will update how it goes... #ScienceSky

Absolutely brilliant. Real love story to Inside no. 9.and very meta, while not alienating new people. Brilliant show, loved every minute @reece-shearsmith.bsky.social

In the last 10 years, I've lost one side of my family to cancer. My nan, grandad, aunty, uncle, and family friend, as well as one of my closest friends to type 1 diabetes. Struggling to get my head round it all to be honest. 3 of them went into remission for cancer previously.

The deadline for applications for #MicrobioJ Editors is in one week. If you are interested in getting involved, please find more information and details on how to apply:

New specific comment on the use of newer scientific names for species. TL;DR a reminder that once a name is validly published, it can always be used. You don't *have* to use a new name just because someone published it. zenodo.org/records/1461...

After a Long 48 hour nap 🫣 I just want to take a minute to appreciate everyone involved in my PhD and my Examination process. My viva was such a motivational and enjoyable experience and reminded how much I love microbiology! @mermanchester.bsky.social

I am glad this guy has been found guilty, it really highlights the desperation many type 1's (like me) feel at having to manage their condition every minute of the day and will try anything to get rid of it (we can't) and the misinformation on what type 1 diabetes actually is. tinyurl.com/3sf4wte3
