While I'm glad the Yankees have joined the 21st century, I'm a little sad that this clear evidence of them taking themselves much much too seriously is now gone. Next up: ending the requirement for women in their org to wear skirts! (JK!)

At any rate read their article, and read our response here www.draysbay.com/2025/2/19/24... and tell us what you think.

...or to be deeply offended because I along with several of our writers and our families are in the midst of personal struggles caused by budget cuts, deportation orders, and the like and to see someone use this tone-deaf comparison to get clicks writing about baseball is really hurtful.

I can't decide whether to be puzzled because it's such an odd comparison that seems to fully misunderstand DOGE (just because efficiency is in the name doesn't mean what it does is efficient) AND baseball (all teams are trying to get the most value out of their resources, e.g. operate efficiently!)

But for some reason the author decide to criticize the Rays roster approach by....comparing (?) the Rays approach to baseball to the DOGE efforts to dismantle vital US public institutions. What?

Our piece has some quibbles with @baseballprospectus.com baseball assessments, but let's be honest - when we squint we can be cautiously optimistic about this team, but let's just say we're not losing sleep over how they will hold playoff games in an 11k capacity stadium.

OK here are our thoughts! www.draysbay.com/2025/2/19/24...

For those of you with @baseballprospectus.com access you might be interested in their Rays 2025 season preview, in which we learn that the Rays are the worst, are kind of the Elon Musk of baseball, but they'll nonetheless win 87 games? www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...

Who wants to wager on which Rays pitcher will be the first to be shut down due to "forearm tightness?" (I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer, but someone WILL have a sore arm so we might as well be prepared).

Actually Fanfest at the Pier looked pretty great! www.mlb.com/video/rays-f...

Hitting against Paul Skenes looks Impossible. 😱

Romano captures the dynamic between the team and Pinellas/St. Pete governments well. "The Rays feel like they are the aggrieved party in this scenario. And maybe, at one point, they were. But their obstinance has outlived the original complaint."

Re-upping this from our site as a companion for the John Romano piece in today's @tampabaytimes.bsky.social - www.tampabay.com/sports/2025/...

To be clear, the bonds weren't delayed, since the money from those bonds isn't required until the Spring. So why is a project the team previously endorsed now, they claim, in jeopardy?

Pinellas County Commission and St. Pete City Council delayed votes to start the process of issuing bonds for a little over a month. Rays now claim these delays have busted the project budget. Should we believe them? www.draysbay.com/2025/2/14/24...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Do you have stories about the guys who came to camp a few days early and how they must have #thewilltowin? Can we put that narrative to rest, or nah?

To our fellow and sister #MLB #baseball writers - @bleedcubbieblue.bsky.social @pinstripealley.bsky.social @overthemonster.bsky.social @purplerow.bsky.social @blessyouboystigers.bsky.social @crawfishboxes.bsky.social @twinkietown.bsky.social @truebluela.bsky.social @lookoutlanding.bsky.social

Just once I'd like to hear a manager say, "He showed up exactly on the day he was supposed to report, it's great that he has a life outside of baseball"

Every spring training we hear some variation of "[Player X] reported to camp two days early, that's a good sign." But is it? @bradleywoodrum.bsky.social is suggesting we find a new Spring Training narrative: www.draysbay.com/2025/2/12/24...

Ok, let's tag every Spring Training reference to guys who report "in the best shape of his life" #BSOHL Junior is poised for a breakout year as per @tbtimesrays.bsky.social www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/...

Clearly he was trying to hit sac flies but the balls just kept leaving the ballpark.

By my calculation, the least expensive seats from these 20 game plans would be about $75 a game, plus fees. Since season plan tickets are usually discounted a bit, what are they going to be charging for single game tickets? www.mlb.com/rays/tickets...

One regret I have as a Rays fan is that "truck day" just isn't a big deal. When I lived in the Northeast, it was fun to think of the truck leaving in the dead of winter, traveling for days and emerging into spring. But truck day for the Rays just means 2 hrs on I-75. www.mlb.com/phillies/new...

Pitchers and catchers report in just a little over a week, so who exactly are those catchers? www.draysbay.com/2025/2/4/243...

Catching up on last week's news: Rays sign a player! And he's good! www.draysbay.com/2025/1/29/24...

Today would be a great day to be able to watch a baseball game. Sigh.

Anyone here take the plunge on a full or partial season ticket plan at Legends Field?

We'll have smart people who write for our site sharing info on this system -- I haven't had a chance to look under the hood but I hope the more you make errors, give up dingers (for pitchers) and strike out (for batters), the higher your OOPSY.

Kudos to @fangraphs.com for developing a new projection system with an 80 grade projection system name. Meet OOPSY: blogs.fangraphs.com/yet-another-...

Rays sign Rasmussen, goal is to include him in the rotation. As a 3X TJS survivor, however, we should be prepared to see him in the pen. www.draysbay.com/2025/1/8/243...

Signing free agents to minor league contracts is often under the radar, but every once in a while those signings have a big impact, e.g. 2007 Rays minor league signing of Carlos Pena. Is another Carlos Pena hiding in this group? www.draysbay.com/2025/1/6/243...
