I don’t think I would ever make fun of Canadians even if I wanted to. I think if you grew up in the 80s or 90s in the US, you’ve always had, at least, the sneaking suspicion that they are MUCH funnier than we are.

Why major in philosophy? - can be smug after only 2-3 classes - only major where you finish knowing less than when you started - generally better beards than psychology - can't find a job, but then again what even is a job?

New year, new paper! 4- and 5-year-olds can represent abstract relations (i.e., sameness and difference) predicated on an abstract dimension (i.e., kind membership) in a relational match-to-sample task. Moreover, noun label training facilitates task performance. direct.mit.edu/opmi/article...

You might think that having just one word for "yesterday" and "tomorrow" would make learning harder, but we find the opposite - that children learning the Hindi word "kal" understand its use to refer to past & future events earlier than English-speaking kids understand "yesterday" and "tomorrow".

I don’t know how many possible dreams there are, but what are the odds that both me and my partner should be woken up on the same morning by dreams of being attacked by cows?

Bill Labov died this morning. I'm not coherent enough to talk about how important and influential and brilliant he was. I am very sad. I was so lucky to know him, and I am grateful every day that he (and Gillian, and Walt, etc) built an academic field where kindness is expected.

Now out in J. of Semantics. We show that listeners assume speakers are competent by default, over-computing implicatures when speakers are ignorant if they're placed under cognitive load. academic.oup.com/jos/advance-...

Non-passionate minds also welcome at this point, mind you. But seriously - reviewing CogSci papers is a great way to quickly learn about a bunch of new work and provide constructive feedback that helps folks refine their work!
