Incredible glossary and image from @stimpunks.org and @autisticrealms.bsky.social. A must-read for anyone wanting to know more about monotropism.

These are lovely books from @drlisacherry.bsky.social which showcase the power of relationships.

This is an excellent ebook with contributions from a range of neurodivergent affirming practitioners.

We have a lot of work to do in the USA (and everywhere) to survive what’s coming. Care systems will be attacked. We must build a counterculture of care. Care work makes all other work possible. Help us keep people alive. Help us create ecologies of care. Donate now. stimpunks.org/2024/11/16/f...

Lots of people follow me for my work as a clinical psychologist and my work in the field of trauma, organisational culture & direct work tools but my other huge love and passion is art. It’s where I get into my best flow state. You can follow my art on instagram under enrichedtexturebykiki

Ok so I've put together a (currently small) starter pack of people with an interest/investment in #disability in #UKHE, including disabled students and staff. Tied my brain in knots about adding people without consent, so please please let me know if you want adding! go.bsky.app/SzRGzk4

I'm interested in learning more about people's impressions of #autism coverage on #Wikipedia. I'd be grateful if you could fill in this anonymous survey, preferably without looking it up in response to this post! forms.gle/twnR9HjrEkiu...

To my colleagues in education. Here's your annual reminder of how we're all tired at the same time (unlike in most other jobs), which can make everything feel tough. Honest communication, plenty of appreciation in every direction and kindness (to self and others) recommended.

Lots of resources for #WorldMentalHealthDay in this toolkit from @edsupportuk.bsky.social #EduSky

“Common educational themes reported by families include the misinterpretation of the root causes of the needs of their child, inappropriate support, a narrative of blame, school attendance pressures and confusion caused by a lack of a diagnosis” Helpful article about PANS PANDAS #EdPsychs

A really helpful thread from @neurofabulous.bsky.social which challenges our thinking about groups. When we don’t embrace differences & preferences, even with good intentions, we risk treating everyone the same & not making crucial accommodations & adjustments for individual needs. #EduSky #EdPsychs

“You cannot speed up child development, it has its own pace and every child is unique. Practising skills such as sitting still before a child is ready to do so, is as futile as making a baby practise walking before they are ready” #EduSky #EdPsychs

“The autistic facilitator was felt to be more tolerant and understanding, and provided a positive role model for participants who had recently been diagnosed” Findings on autistic adults’ preferences for autistic-led and peer-focused post diagnostic support.

“They also need to know that it’s okay to have their ‘snack’ activities WHENEVER they need it. If a child is struggling with noise, then telling them to wait for their headphones isn’t going to help them” Helpful article from @lynnmccann.bsky.social about sensory diets. #EduSky

“Drop the disorder” - lovely poem from Dr Karen Treisman for trauma informed and trauma reducing organisations and systems. #EdPsychs #EduSky youtu.be/LRJ9w3jIv0w?...

It’s so important to be open minded about how stress manifests. We focus a lot on fight and flight. But it can also present as quiet, withdrawn, rigid, and compulsively compliant. “Good behaviour” doesn’t always mean feeling good on the inside. #EdPsychs

I’ve never been comfortable with the term “expert”. It immediately creates a power imbalance, risks a focus on telling instead of listening, and it can be used by others to delay or sidestep their own responsibilities.

Helpful reminder that our window of tolerance for stress and our ability to cope with demands fluctuates every day and throughout the day. Something that is easy and straightforward on one day can feel exhausting and overwhelming on another. The same applies to the kids you teach. #EduSky #EdPsychs

“It’s not just about throwing more money at the system. It’s about structuring it in ways that truly include children, ensuring they belong and are supported in every facet of their lives” Nice blog from @phoenixedsarah.bsky.social reflecting on the recent #SEND debate. #EduSky

This is a great initiative from @edpsy.bsky.social for #EdPsychs to share their research after all the hard work they put in.

The campaign by Madlug - www.madlug.com - is so important in preventing this horrible reality for care experienced children. With every bag you buy, a pack-away travel bag goes to a child in care. #EduSky #EdPsychs “Belongings of care children put in bin bags and lost” www.bbc.com/news/article...

“If your child is masking, then their autistic needs and ways of regulating are not being met” Helpful blog from @autisticrealms.bsky.social about recognising and supporting autistic children’s struggles in school. #EdPsychs #EduSky www.autisticrealms.com/post/https-w...

“Reframe these states of being that have been labelled deficiencies or pathologies as human differences” This is an essential guide from @stimpunks.org for embedding neuroaffirming perspectives and practices in education. #EdPsychs #EduSky #FlipTheNarrative

Great examples of stories that explain from @lynnmccann.bsky.social. Too many social stories focus on compliance, rather than giving information and validating a range of feelings.

There is so much emphasis on assessments & therapies by external agencies. Everyday relationships have the power to create safety and support regulation. It costs nothing to be kind, playful, accepting, curious, empathetic, predictable, flexible & proactive. #FlipTheNarrative #EdPsychs

“The problem is the inflexibility of our system which prizes attendance & test results over emotional wellbeing & flexibility. Which doesn’t start with what each child needs to learn but with a set of hoops they need to jump through” Sobering but necessary read from @stimpunks.org #EduSky #EdPsychs
