I need a good short article or two for undergrads in my course Digital Comm, Cultures & Careers about how AI is transforming workplaces, and how the "human touch"--fact checking and authenticity/interest/humor is what they will bring to the table. Has anyone read anything appropriate?

Looking for a research partner at another institution. I use Digital Humanities techniques and the IMDb to study the careers of everyone who worked on "Seinfeld." I've done a lot of the work already, but grants organizations and publishers want partnerships, and I could use motivation and editing.

"2025 ACH Start-Your Project Funds Application" are due by January 27, 2025, so you still have 10ish days to apply! Read this very brief description and apply 👇

Always so much friction in the system. Bought a new IPhone the other day (my old one was an x) and they said for .99 a month I could get an IPad for 72 months. I don't want more monthly payments, so I paid it off. $450! I've been on the phone with AT&T all morning.

For the last three years I signed up to review papers for DH202x conferences. I was assigned zero papers (I have reviewed in the past). This year I did not sign up and was assigned 4????

End of term stuff. Final grading (had to turn in a student for Academic Integrity Violation, even though sources were in Works Consulted for lack of quotation marks, but he was warned). Planning Summer term with optimism, even though enrollments down for next term. Outcomes Assessment Plan (zzzzz).

The first thing I used to do in a hotel room is look for a binder and read The Story of the Hotel. I miss that (and when do they stop serving breakfast?)

I know this author personally and I am so proud!!! (No, it's not me.) www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/a-f...

Use a rubric, they said. It'll be faster, they said. (Each paper now taking twice as long to grade).

I am tired of reading the papers in Television & Culture, which ask the students to take 4 shows in the same subgenre and trace historical development using gender, race, class etc. They already do a group creative TV pitch project. What's a good assignment incorporating AI?

Shooter is riveted by WKRP’s “Turkey’s Away.”

Where does Charlie Brown live that they can eat outside on Thanksgiving? Peppermint Patty is wearing shorts and sandals.

Keynote: "Historicizing AI Abolition: Data Extractivism Across the Life Cycle and the Supply Chain". (Relatedly, thanks to @histoftech.bsky.social & @jhereia.bsky.social for running multiple of the most serious aka non-hype, justice-focused AI-related events I've seen on our campus this year)

I feel confident that "refusal" is a dead end, and that students will benefit more from the kind of guidance Anna is providing here. But I also understand why teachers would lose heart, because this guidance seems unlikely to be stable for long, and leaves instructors exposed to continued change. +

If you know anyone on here who worked on Seinfeld in any capacity, let me know, please. I’d love to follow them as I did in the bad place.

How closely do the DH2025 organizers expect papers to adhere to the theme? My proposal does, but it might be seen as a bit tangential--is that OK as long as I mention "open access"?

The new show I've been working on drops today. It's on Netflix and I hope you like it!

I need a good AI focused assignment for my students in Digital Communication, Cultures & Careers and another for my students in Data Visualization. They need to work with it to a. use it ethically and b. learn to have skills employers will value beyond others. Any ideas?

Two happy cats.

I've added a bunch of new arrivals to the starter pack like @heatherswadley.bsky.social , @chaoscubed.bsky.social Historians: these are the political scientists who take very seriously temporality. Let me know if u wanted to be added/removed.
