This sounds amazing

The New Year was often represented as a baby or infant, being seen in by a bearded old man figure similar to Father Time, representing the Old Year. @folkloreThursday #folkloreThursday

The Mistletoe Bough is a dark folktale about a game of hide and seek at a wedding at Christmas. The Bride accidentally locks herself in a chest and can't be found so she ends up dying and her skeleton is discovered 30 years later. #MythologyMonday @mythologymonday.thefolklore.cafe.ap.brid.gy

Happy Old Twelfth Night to anyone still stuck in pre- 1752 calendar changes. Many rural communities still celebrate their wassailing, Morris dancing and drinking on this day instead. Another excuse to keep the winter festivities going #folkyFriday

RIP David Lynch, a great visionary film maker with images that remain burned in your brain. Able to expose corruption hidden under polished surfaces. (He also invented trick for smoother dolly shots by piling all the camera boxes on top to make them heavier - meticulous and weird filmmaker)

Hi all at #horrorWritersChat I’m Andy Mark Simpson I write folk horror and magic realist thrillers I also host the @DreamSwarm podcast so give me a shout if you want to come on and talk about your work

Had a lovely winter weekend with wassailing and a walk in the forest and hills.

Despite being in the opposite corner of the country and hundreds of miles from traditional cider regions, I managed to spy an apple tree spirit at a lovely wassailing ceremony in Newcastle today. Nice music and community spirit. #wassailling Thanks to Jesmond Community Orchard for the warm welcome.

Good luck to everyone involved with the Whittlesea Straw Bear Festival this weekend. Looks like an amazing event, worth checking out if you’re in East Anglia. strawbear.org.uk/whats-on/

Great post about Maid Marian, one of my favourite folklore figures. I love both her May Queen and warrior aspects. Will be of interest to @boldoutlaw.bsky.social and @intogreenwood.bsky.social

A good one for folk horror filmmakers:

‘I’ve known mornings, evenings, afternoons I have measured out my life with coffee spoons’ ‘Love song of J Alfred Prufrock by TS Eliot Another great line about disappointment and mediocrity #wyrdWednesday @wyrdWednesday

This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper. ‘The Hollow Men’ TS Eliot Disappointment theme for #wyrdWednesday @wyrdwednesday.bsky.social

‘A cold coming we had of it, Just the worst time of the year For a journey, and such a long journey: The ways deep and the weather sharp, The very dead of winter.’ ‘Journey of the Magi’ TS Eliot
