This is how I would respond to the email Musk has had sent to government employees (not legal advice). 1. Refused to violate the law. 2. Refused to violate the Constitution. 3. Refused to bow or scrape. 4. Refused to bend a knee. 5. Deleted this stupid email.

Please consider using this link to ask Congress to protect NIH & medical research. It only takes a minute to complete. Thank you so much! #NIH #cancer #congress #medsky #cansky #academicresearch #research #science #politics #uspol #EduSky #PhDSky #AcademicSky #bluecrew #bluesky #megaboost

The House could vote next week on drastic cuts to Medicaid that would gut critical programs that protect the civil rights and dignity of millions of Americans — including people with disabilities. Contact your member of Congress: No cuts to Medicaid.

The National Institutes of Health had to stop considering new grant applications, delaying funding for research into diseases ranging from heart disease and cancer to Alzheimer's and allergies.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

If you are following the various lawsuits re: NIH funding and indirects, this is a great play by play of the hearing today 🧪 #HPBSky #SurgerySky #ARM

Just a point of reference for those concerned about NIH indirect costs... 1) Indirect costs alone average 53% of contract costs in the defense industry. 2) The entire NIH budget is ~5% of the DoD budget. 3) Indirect costs / facility costs / whatever you want to call them are part of business.

Cuts to NSF expected to be at 50% reduction in force for an independent agency that fuels discovery and innovation. "The NSF budget was $9B, or 0.13% of the total [budget]." This is not about fiscal prudence. This is about killing universities. nanoscale.blogspot.com/2025/02/the-...

Thanks for sharing this!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our colleague and friend, Dr. Josh Levitsky. Josh served the AST in many roles throughout his career, most recently as Immediate Past President. We welcome you to share your memories and tributes to Josh here: bit.ly/412SOrs

This is a five-alarm fire 🔥 for US science 🧪. (We keep saying that, but it keeps being true 😭.) Trump and Musk are blocking *ALL* NIH grants ‼️ by "exploiting a loophole in the process"—stopping study sections & council meetings. Every biomedical researcher in the country should be screaming. 1/

The Judge said NIH grants for medical research had to be unfrozen; the White House found a way to refreeze it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/white...

1. Help: NIH study sections and council meetings not already published in the Federal Register as of Jan. 21 have not been allowed to meet (thetransmitter.org/funding/fede...). This appears to be an 'end run' around a recent injunction and came from HHS officials. You can help (see below):

Important 🧵: Stanford political scientist uses data to show DOGE is attacking “liberal” agencies, not focusing on waste & inefficiency: “The hardest hit agencies are those that regulate industry, protect public health, and expand access to education.”

Aside from everything else it's just kind of funny that the CFPB is way over there on the left, meaning "companies shouldn't be able to scam you and take your money" is largely antithetical to conservatism

The court ordered that NIH grant funding be unfrozen, so The Regime found a way around it. For NIH grants to be funded, a review panel must rank them. In order for a review panel to meet, they must post it on the Federal Register. Submissions to the Federal Register are now on hold “indefinitely”.

As @jeremymberg.bsky.social correctly assessed at the time, the NIH memo that slashed overhead rates came from Trump/Musk, not anyone within the organization.

This is important. @avaskham.bsky.social is doing critical work here reporting details in @thetransmitter.bsky.social that I’ve seen nowhere else in reporting on the NIH / NSF funding crisis.

So CSR is “postponing” (read: canceling) study sections that have connections to health disparities with 36 hours notice. The grants were submitted and reviewed, ready to be debated and discussed. Maybe 10% would have been funded. I am far beyond angry.

Another way they are disrupting research. Read this. www.thetransmitter.org/funding/fede...

The SAVE Act doesn’t save you. It is dangerous legislation that chips away at our right to vote; which is the cornerstone of a democracy. Call your federal reps and tell them to vote no on HR 22. #votenoHR22 #vote

The AACR is deeply concerned that the Administration’s recent actions are threatening NIH and its mission to accelerate progress for patients with cancer and other diseases that afflict millions of Americans. Read our statement: https://buff.ly/4gRXNB8

This is fucking incredible.

This morning, the National Science Foundation fired 168 probationary employees, effective immediately. The number represents roughly 10% of its workforce. Follow Science’s coverage of President Donald Trump’s impact on U.S. research and science globally. ⬇️ scim.ag/40XtSSi

ATTENTION If you are on a study section that was scheduled to meet, please post or DM me with information regarding: 1. The name of the study section 2. The scheduled date 3. Whether the meeting actually occurred THANK YOU

The "schedule" of upcoming National Advisory Council meetings (based on posted dates) No special meetings have been posted. These meetings must be announced at least 15 days in advance in the Federal Register Once communications and Federal Register posting bans are lifted these may change...

"The very fact that I am having to publish this anonymously in a country that has the right to free speech written into our Constitution is an indictment of what is happening." www.bmj.com/content/388/...

The Trump official currently dismantling USAID was caught in a secret meeting with a group of pro-Russian separatists in the Balkans. Those he met with are under American sanctions for trying to restart the Bosnian war in the name of Christian nationalism. 1/

The US health department fired employees Saturday across some of its biggest agencies including Medicare, Medicaid and the FDA. trib.al/99QFCR9

Live from Pyongyang, it's Saturday Night!

This is gut-wrenching 😭😱https://www.bmj.com/content/388/bmj.r294

The greatest political scandal today is not what Trump is doing. It is the fact that congressional Republicans have given up their role in the constitutional system as a check on the executive branch. If we are in a constitutional crisis, it is as much on Mike Johnson and John Thune as anyone else.

Hey out there -- if you have information about the job cuts at FDA, CDC, NIH or HHS at large, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking, in particular, for information about exactly what cuts were made. You can reach me on Signal, the encrypted messaging system, at MattHerper.92. DMs are open.

Yesterday many thousands of federal employees were terminated. This is a Reddit thread for federal employees that got laid off.

Where law ends, tyranny begins.

ending cancer clinical trials but “making America healthy again” @joycevance.bsky.social @rachelmaddow.bsky.social @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com

Got word that several NIH employees in a group working on cancer clinical trials got terminated via email this evening. “The [cancer research] trials will literally not be able to function without us.” Trump and Musk are killing cancer research. 🧪

Per a source with knowledge—some “glitch” at the National Finance Center inside USDA apparently has prevented more than 2000 employees from getting their paycheck today. Theoretically will be cleared up by Tuesday, but, well….

Remember that it was just last year that the 11th Circuit took DeSantis’s version of this to the woodshed. In a panel that included two Trump appointees, the decision was unanimous and authored by one of them, Judge Britt Grant. media.ca11.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub...

When people see the maple leaf, they see possibility. They see freedom. They see a helping hand. They see Canada, and the best of our values. Happy 60th to our flag. 🇨🇦

Roughly 9% of NIH employees fired yesterday - rumors are IC directors may be next. Please call your senators and representatives!

Hoping @petebuttigieg.bsky.social @sen-adamschiff.bsky.social @raskin.house.gov @ocasio-cortez.house.gov realize the destruction happening at NIH--we need their help
