One-Time Comics Curmudgeon COTW Runner-Up Fan of Grover, the most hard-working Muppet I will gladly discuss MARY WORTH at any time and will not be taking questions as to why (it’s Aldo). You lost today, kid, but that doesn’t mean you have to like it.

I’m not particularly against eating contests (sure, go nuts, do whatever you want), but I might (might) be against hot dog eating contests. The hot dog is a uniquely American food and does not get enough respect for its infinite varieties. It is a perfect food.

Frank O’Connor’s “The Mad Lomasneys”! What a heck of a story! #shortstories #irishstories

Flannery O’Connor’s “Good Country People” isn’t exactly a sleeper of an American short story, but I like it better than “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.” Hm.

I watched INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE in a theater this afternoon and holy smokes, what a movie!

Rereading my Frank O’Connor, as one does, and “The Mad Lomasneys” is just one hell of a short story. “Amn’t” is proper in my personal rule book. The Irish get to irish. They know what they’re doing.

Well well well, SLOW HORSES was (has been/is/will be) such an enjoyable show that now I have books to obtain, possibly from my local library!

@briancgrubb.bsky.social I just watched all of SLOW HORSES on your and Sepinwall’s and Tobias’s recommendations and: (1) I am very smart for listening to all of you; (2) “Gary Oldman” would technically make a good alias for Jackson Lamb; and (3) What a show! (4) Standish is great and I love her.

Lightning bugs are out and upon us! Them and the crickets and tree frogs mean summer is here.

@juliebwriter.bsky.social When good dad advice is on point, it is ON POINT! 🙂

I stubbed my smallest toe on my right foot and probably fractured it and am scribbling LOVE and HATE on my toes because the entire experience has turned me into a non-murderous Harry Powell. Also, I should rewatch THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.
