Does Congress really want to de facto surrender their power to musk - not potus, not even an official with a Senate confirmed position? The fact that there is apparently no way to stop a campaign donor from being given unilateral control over the government is so appalling that I cannot fathom it.

Fantastic and long thread of all of the ways that we are throwing sand in the gears of the doge/project 2025 coup. Everything matters! Get out there and protest! Do everything you can to protect our Constitution and our democracy.

WaPo Page One: “If you’re going to just yell at me, that’s not going to be an effective town hall,” McCormick said .. “But we’re pissed!” a woman shouted. #GA07 www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Much of the Black middle class was built by federal jobs. That may change. For the last several decades, federal jobs helped Black workers find stable work with guardrails to prevent bias, but mass cuts are threatening decades of upward mobility. www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/...

"While Florida insurers claimed to be losing money in the wake of hurricanes Irma and Michael, their parent companies and affiliates were making billions of dollars, according to a study obtained by the Herald/Times." And it appears that the DeSantis administration tried to keep it under wraps.

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

have been wondering about this. as long as you're a temporary govt worker, there's some logic. you don't have to upend your professional life to help on some govt task for a month or two. But now he's a top admin appointee and also CEO of major federal contractor. how is that ok?

btw, i will tell you this - i have been talking to people all day, and the media is missing, whether intentionally or not, how absolutely, volcanically angry the people who have been fired are, not because they lost their jobs, but because their jobs matter, *to us*

I naively thought we were all agreed that apartheid was bad but here's Elon Musk running a shadow government agency in an elaborate trolling exercise. Totally unconstitutional and illegal, and MAYBE the judicial system will see that. By @mjsdc.bsky.social on @slate.bsky.social

So the President not only fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He also fired the top JAGs at the Army, Navy and Air Force. Those are the lead people who determine what is a legal order and what is not. So if you're planning to do things that are illegal they're the most obvious obstacle.

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

The nature of “shock and awe” is that it makes it hard to see or think clearly. What’s playing out through a veneer of chaos is a deliberate tactical program to create a system in which the President has sole authority over the entire executive branch: www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

Reuters is reporting that Ukraine has been notified that Elon will shut off Starlink access to Ukrainian Armed Forces unless Zelensky signs the rare earth minerals paperwork. 100% extortion.

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

State-by-State Impact if USAID Cuts www.usaidstopwork.com/usaid-state-...

This is entirely within the control of the House/Senate R majorities. Congress could get up on its hind legs and defund White House ketchup etc. at any time to enforce its own authority, and the 34-time convicted felon we’ve put in charge of faithfully executing the laws couldn’t do shit about it.

A number of federal agencies, from HHS to the USDA, have laid off employees only to rescind those terminations days later. An expert says it "suggests something about mismanagement of government."

So DOGE's 'wall of receipts' is riddled with errors, falsehoods and distortions. big shock. about what you'd expect from 6 tech bros dragged over from the strip club www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

We just wanted to do our jobs that we love and serve the American people. Why fire us? For what purpose? Power play? Tax cuts for billionaires? Is that worth destroying services Americans rely on?

So they removed the black chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the middle of his 4-year tour, without cause, and they're seeking to replace him with a white **retired** Air Force three-star general who lacks the requisite experience as a service chief or combatant commander? Huh, how about that

today in breaking laws no matter how obscure, ladies and gentlemen, the Goldwater-Nichols Act

Replacing all the JAGs seems…not good.

Tom Krause is in charge of both a sensitive government payment system and a company that has millions of dollars’ worth of active contracts with various federal agencies through distribution partners, a WIRED review finds. Conflicts posed by this are unprecedented in the modern era, experts say.

The Pentagon will fire 5,400 civilian workers next week.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

After a lifetime on the frontiers of the fight against HIV, researchers can finally see the end of the epidemic in sight. But thanks to the Trump administration’s executive orders, it’s unclear when—or possibly even ever—this breakthrough medicine will see the light of day.

Happy Tax Season! This is your daily reminder that Elon Musk’s Tesla paid $0 in federal income taxes despite raking in $2.3 billion.

Some updates: 1. A federal judge extended a restraining order blocking the National Institutes of Health from cutting research funds until she rules on a permanent injunction. 2. The IRS will not allow a member of Elon Musk’s team to access individual tax returns.

I'm digging down details on a few stories, but I'm very interested in hearing from any federal employees or contractors: * who are just seeing DOGE folks coming into your agencies now * about what has happened in the wake of a DOGE bomb: rehires, canceled programs, big changes, etc. Signal: crg.32

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

Very basic question: DOGE is made up a few dozen people most of whom aren't drawing salaries. What could $40 million be going toward? Could it be data storage outside government servers? talkingpointsmemo.com/news/doge-co...

The past ten years has just been the same clutch of morons and apologists insisting that Trump would never cross that line and then shuffling along with him to insist that he would never cross that next one.

Career public service workers represent some of the best of America. Their professional mistreatment at the hands of the government is an abomination.
