It's now been over a month since Trump sent innocent man Andry Hernández to one of the world's worst prisons because of "Mom" and "Dad" tattoos. Like the others, he is being imprisoned with no contact with the outside world. Don't let him be forgotten.

On March 28 and 29, settlers and Israeli forces stormed and attacked the Jinba community in #MasaferYatta, #WestBank, #Palestine. Five Palestinians were hospitalized —two in intensive care, including a child.

"who’s going to be checking under the skirts of those women who don’t fit the fantasy of women’s sports ... To say exclude trans people, always enforce the biological standard – is to give the bullies control over every woman’s life" livesrunning.wordpress.com/2025/04/16/t...

The world is literally and figuratively burning. We're on the cusp of a third world war. We're facing historic income disparities; the revival of once eradicated diseases. But the West is going full court press against trans women?! Proof that you can't separate transphobia from fascism.

This is an unmitigated disaster, for both trans rights and for science policy. If you are familiar with human sexual development you know “biological sex” is a strange tangle of factors and that our gender/sexual phenotypes are not discrete.

Statement by Translucent providing some context… Written by a lawyer with decades of experience in this area.

Sending all my love and solidarity to trans and non-binary people today and all days. Cis people - this country has shown that it is institutionally transphobic so resist, object, protest, offer your services and stick your head above the parapet.

During #BlackMaternalHealthWeek and always, we uplift the twelve Black women that established the Reproductive Justice framework. They knew that it is never enough to have rights if we do not also have access, and that improving our health means improving our safety, security, and overall wellbeing.

Wow, we are now being officially advised against travel to the USA by the Canadian Association of University Teachers. I never thought I'd see the day. ☹️ #AcademicChatter

"Almost all the UK attacks reported in my study centred on LGBTQ+ materials." Meanwhile editors commission dozens more articles about the silencing of, perhaps, Britain's most published academic, Kathleen Stock. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/a...

This is a really important point — when we point out that governments are crippling HE by attacking visas, we also need to a) talk about international students as people not £££ and also b) point out *why* overseas tuition fees have become an apparent panacea for UK universities

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

When the Home Office was trialling their visit visa (racist) algorithm, academics/campaigners were the first people to be trapped. The traffic light would flag their country of origin as too risky, even where it was obvious that they had been invited to speak. It continues without the algorithm.

This story hasn’t gotten nearly enough attention. It is openly fraudulent what they’re doing.

It's all fun and games until … "Professor Gina Neff of Queen Mary University London told the BBC #ChatGPT is "burning through energy", and the data centres used to power it consume more electricity in a year than 117 countries." www.bbc.com/news/article...

“The two-page memo, which was obtained by The Associated Press, does not allege any criminal conduct by Khalil... Rather, Rubio wrote Khalil could be expelled for his beliefs.” AP: apnews.com/article/mahm... See also, my latest about Trump’s assault on free speech: www.hrw.org/the-day-in-h...

We are in an era of wholesale rabid rejection of the very concept of “public good” by people in power.

Sec. of State Marco Rubio has written in a memo that Mahmoud Khalil is subject to deportation because “the alien's past, current, or expected beliefs” have “potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States.” His position is potential thoughts are grounds for deportation

The Trump administration plans to fine migrants under deportation order $998/day if they don't leave, and intends to seize property if they don't pay. They also intend to apply the fines retroactively for the last fine years. Racial capitalism in its starkest form. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

You can tell who the Good Guys are because they're the ones smashing a car window to drag a mother away from her child while wearing ski masks.

Remember folks, according to Labour MPs, the public is always right when it complains about immigrants. But it's always wrong when it demands sweeping renationalisation.

“The Holocaust was not an irrational outflow of the not-yet-fully-eradicated residues of pre-modern barbarity. It was a legitimate resident in the house of modernity; indeed, one who would not be at home in any other house.” - Zygmunt Bauman

And there it is. A shocking, appalling, and deeply disappointing announcement of an entirely unnecessary move from the university. But this is exactly why we have already started organising .

Think about what kind of person you have to be to lie about sending someone to a torture prison for life based on nothing bsky.app/profile/atru...

Most of Huddersfield bears little resemblance to Labour's 'red wall' stereotype. It is struggling economically though, and if the uni goes bust, it might well be the final nail in the coffin of the town centre.

Thousands of civilians slaughtered. Aid blockaded. International law broken. British MPs denied entry to witness what is happening. Yesterday in Parliament, I asked: what will it take for the government to stop selling arms to Israel? #StopArmingIsrael

You'd have thought 'backing British brilliance' might translate into a bit of support for British universities...

It cannot be overstated how insane and dangerous this argument is. They're saying that the government can illegally abduct and imprison people—and even admit that it screwed up!—and then remove the ability of any court to intervene by shipping the victim to a foreign gulag.

I was scheduled to give a talk on Palestine at a student conference at @notredame.bsky.social. The University rescinded my talk a week in advance citing an extremely flimsy excuse. It is truly disgusting. Attached is the letter I received and my reply, link below...

The tariffs are wreaking immediate and catastrophic economic havoc, but make no mistake, the rest of what’s he’s doing, from gutting Social Security, the VA, and the NIH to undermine vaccines is just as reckless and will lead to the same scale of damage.

BREAKING: Israel bombed a tent sheltering journalists at Nasser Medical Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza. Footage shows the tents engulfed in flames — with a journalist trapped inside, burned alive.

What Canada doesn't tell you, but should, is that you should try to enter through pre-clearance at nearly every Canadian airport (excluding Billy Bishop) if possible. You can only be denied, and not detained by ICE, if you run into trouble in pre-clearance. I speak from experience.

This is absolutely disgusting. We need to do better by our students. Our duty as teachers is to educate and support our students. This is NOT the role that universities should be playing in our current hellscape. Keep ICE out of education.

ICE is literally detaining children. www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/5...

🚨UPDATE: Rümeysa Öztürk has now suffered three separate asthma attacks while in DHS custody. She has not received her required asthma medications—a violation of her fundamental right to medical care. This is cruelty, it is neglect, and it is a damning moral and legal failure.

If the UK government agrees to a wholesale undoing of copyright, to excuse Meta's massive theft of books, art, movies etc as 'data', then the creative industries and all of us working in them are finished. All viewers and readers will get in future is unoriginal, derivative slop. #MetaBookThieves
