One of the highlights of my life right now is snuggling with my 8yo while reading books😀🥰

Guidance given to hostages can foster psychological flexibility in tough times. ▪︎ Choose your attitude and actions, even in difficult circumstances. ▪︎ Maintain self-discipline and mental stimulation so you are ready for the next step. ▪︎Plan for a better future to maintain hope.

Today we have published BioEmu-Benchmarks (MIT license): a code to evaluate the multi-conformation sampling benchmarks, MD free energy landscape benchmarks, and folding free energy benchmarks shown in the BioEmu-1 paper with BioEmu or your own model. Some details below 🧵 github.com/microsoft/bi...

There can still be joy!

Great time at #bps2025 and now it’s great to be home😀

We are hiring a Flatiron Research Fellow in the Structural Molecular Biophysics team! Experience with cryoEM and/or membrane protein simulations are a plus! Happy to chat in person with anyone at #bps2025 ! apply.interfolio.com/160227

I'll be presenting my work prospectively studying clinical mutations and their impact on kinase inhibitor binding at #bps2025! Come see my talk on Wednesday morning @ 8:45am.

Nice time catching up with folks from @foldingathome.org at #bps2025

Three talks from my group on Sunday at #BPS2025 Cryptic pockets in crowded environments 9:30am in Rm 502A Allosteric glues inhibit G proteins noon in Rm 515B Antibody dynamics 5:30pm in Rm 502A

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

Nearly every medicine we benefit from started with NIH-funded research. Early discovery work starts in academia. Immunotherapies? Gene therapy for rare diseases? Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s medicines? Vaccines? Novel cancer treatments? Psychiatric medicines? You betcha. 1/

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen. Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !” globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

It was fun watching the Eagles crush the Chiefs last night😀

Cool😀

Trying to focus on the fact that I GET to do science today

Just finished serving on an NIA study section. Mostly business as usual. Some increased engagement and some words of encouragement and solidarity at the end, but otherwise nothing unique to report. Glad that NIH is able to at least continue with that essential function at the moment.

Grateful to get some thought provoking new data to occupy my mind 😀

Our latest work on tackling streptogramin resistance in collaboration with the Seiple lab is now up as a preprint. We (led by Pooja Asthana) targeted a resistance enzyme, VatD, with fragment-based drug discovery! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Science presents so many interesting puzzles! Here's a fun read on quantum mechanics www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Thrilled to take a break from doom and gloom to share our latest work collaborating with the DeGrado lab! We took a de novo designed protein, screened it for ligand binding using X-rays, and used the hits to evolve two wildly different functions: fluorescent turn-on and Kemp elimination catalysis. 🧵

The taxpayers, through Federal NIH funding, have literally invested tens of millions of dollars in my education & career. This is a privledge, & I have always endevored to give my best back to the taxpayers who put me here I am just one of many thousands of scientists who can tell the same story

The Stormlight Archive is a terrific series if you're looking for some fiction to read and like a good story with thought provoking philosophical points

Landwehr et al. present an ML-guided enzyme engineering method using cell-free expression for rapid data generation. Their approach predicts improved variants across diverse reactions, promising faster protein design and broader biocatalyst applications. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

PSA: May be worth masking up in public for awhile. I caught some bug that's been going around and have been demolished for a few days:(

Funny how often one gets such contradictory comments

Now that’s a grape! Didn’t know they could grow so large

Happy new year! 2024 was a productive year, and 2025 stands to be even more exciting! Our thanks to everyone who helped, and some reflections: foldingathome.org/2025/01/09/h...

Know that you're in good company if you're feeling daunted by the uncertainty the coming year presents

Glad we don't have to set the bar too high for our exercise-related new years resolutions😀

Is it just me, or are K12 schools and universities way more liberal with declaring snow days than they used to be? Last night, both U Penn and the local school district preemptively called today a snow day. But the weather forecast didn't/doesn't look so bad to me...

The @cecamevents.bsky.social Flagship Workshop is coming to Madison! Hosted at @datascience_uw(thanks!), organized by @drgregbowman.bsky.social, @bettinagkeller.bsky.social, and me (CECAM-US-CENTRAL). We have slots for contributed talks - apply here (deadline: June 11): www.cecam.org/workshop-det...

Are you a researcher or faculty at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI)? Register for a networking session called "Low Stakes Lightning Talks. " Each attendee will make 5 min-presentatios to quickly connect with a peer at a PUI. @biophysicalsoc.bsky.social mailchi.mp/biophysics/c...

A generous offer from a talented scientist and thinker for anyone interested in extra mentoring

Its time for the tech industry to introduce a new standard for cables/connectors, as I've almost switched all my devices over to USB-C😜
