On feedback for students: Even a top-graded student needs to know where to go next. There is always more up unless you're a mountaineer, but then the next thing is getting home safely. Sharing my & @philmcaleer.bsky.social's words on feedback and the student's learning journey. tinyurl.com/56dj45z8

Refreshing piece by Amy Fleming in The Guardian, where I joined scholars to unpack misconceptions that disempower parents & young people around tech. Evidence doesn’t support fear—our approach shouldn’t either. Let’s pause panic & do better for families in 2025! www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

On my way to Edinburgh where I'm doing a very short talk on teaching programming/reproducible research practices rapidly. We hear in psychology that students can't learn to programme or there's no time. I argue psychology students absolutely can providing the might support and content is available.

A little gathering for students across all of our MSc programmes to celebrate the end of the first semester! Including a speech by me for our group work prize, mince pies, and Christmas jumpers🎄

Gorgeous November light captured by UofG School of Psychology & Neuroscience's Dr Helena Paterson! 🍂 🤩 Happy Friday everyone! 💙

Very pleased that this paper is now officially published. We worked to make it as practical as possible so we added resources on the OSF osf.io/du6gy/ including a Pre-reg template, code & coding manual. Already using it to teach my project students transparent methods for their open-ended data.

Amazing seminar by @maddipow.bsky.social speaking about gender and open science and expressing many of the thoughts I have had over the years, with much more eloquence and nuance than I could ever muster. #AcademicSky

Published! Forgot to share, but @samhforbes.bsky.social reminded me! 😊 I really hope people engage with this because it's so widespread not to be willing to teach women, including a lot of self harming ideas and of course more external sexism. doi.org/10.5117/TVGN...

New AMPPS paper on coding open-ended data. Coding open-ended data is common in psychology (~20% of published papers include it), but authors rarely provide sufficient information to assess its validity or replicate its results. We provide suggestions. osf.io/preprints/ps... 1/6
