What an incredible loss—to take a country with such a reputation for opportunity and innovation that the smartest people in the world would take great personal risks to move here, and to squander it entirely for the most pathetic nonsense reasons.

The only time I really feel like "we're cooked" is when I drive around and see every third driver literally watching or scrolling their phones while driving. Not at a red light. While navigating traffic. The addiction is total.

All else aside, this whole thing where federal agent are just hiding their identities with masks now is extremely fucking unsettling.

Congestion pricing in New York is following the same public opinion polling trajectory it followed in London and Stockholm. Sometimes, just getting something done is the way to make it popular.

I had very unpleasant multi-day side effects from both the Pfizer and Moderna shots, and was looking forward to an alternative that seemingly has less being available this year. So stupid.

I’m old enough to remember stuff like this

Good ideas in this episode about reframing anti-car messaging to, e.g. "pro-children’s autonomy," unfortunately I think there’s likely a degree of motonormativity/tipping point percentage of kids who walk/bike to school, below which the the whole concept of children’s autonomy becomes a fringe idea.

I know Great Barrington well and it is extremely hard to imagine any scenario on this earth in this small town that would require cops to roll out like they're going to war.

Walking around most populated parts of America is an exercise in going way out of the way to find routes with actual sidewalks and crosswalks, then stepping out into moving traffic as drivers sail through red lights, dividing their attention between their phones and oncoming cars as they turn right.

people are getting mad at Hank about this but he’s just objectively correct here; there’s this pseudo-Luddite thing going on where folks insist that LLMs do not have any use cases despite that clearly not being true, particularly with how cheap they are to operate (you can run deepseek on a raspi)

I......may listen to this while driving đź‘€

I love my car, I also love not having to drive it every day. There are few things I enjoy more fully than a six-speed manual on an twisty country road, early evening in the summer with the windows down—just don't make cars the only way to go anywhere. Cars ruin cities!

Paris continues to make NYC's lack of true pedestrianization look awfully pathetic.
