Good ideas in this episode about reframing anti-car messaging to, e.g. "pro-children’s autonomy," unfortunately I think there’s likely a degree of motonormativity/tipping point percentage of kids who walk/bike to school, below which the the whole concept of children’s autonomy becomes a fringe idea.

Walking around most populated parts of America is an exercise in going way out of the way to find routes with actual sidewalks and crosswalks, then stepping out into moving traffic as drivers sail through red lights, dividing their attention between their phones and oncoming cars as they turn right.

I love my car, I also love not having to drive it every day. There are few things I enjoy more fully than a six-speed manual on an twisty country road, early evening in the summer with the windows down—just don't make cars the only way to go anywhere. Cars ruin cities!
