1. Today, the Iowa Legislature shamefully stripped transgender people from the State Civil Rights Act. It becomes the first state to ever strip any group from a civil rights act. There were powerful speeches, and huge protets. The latest from Mira Lazine. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Are you interested in analyzing small samples from marginalized communities and aren't sure how? My new commentary in AJE's collection on Methods in Social Epidemiology lays out rec's for researchers, public health practitioners, and data owners. DM your email address if you need access.

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

It's nearly 5am and Republicans just rammed through their pro-billionaire, anti-middle class budget blueprint. In order to pass massive tax giveaways for billionaires, they're going to defund Medicaid, slash veterans benefits, & force kids to go hungry. Make sure everyone knows it.

Oh my god. They removed "transgender" from the page about Trans woman Sylvia Rivera's page at the National Park service. "Sylvia Rivera began fighting for gay and _____ rights" WOW.

With CDC removal of trans data, its important I use my platform to support research in this space. Emory is doing a virtual study on HIV+ trans-fem individuals and working on shaping viral load testing for this population, with some compensation. If it applies to you, here's the link to enroll:

What happened to CDC's bird flu studies and why did they publish about wildfires instead? Sources tell us Trump officials are now wielding unprecedented control over agency's flagship scientific journal "The MMWR has lost its autonomy" www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-o...

It is *very* important to understand that Jews were never the only target of the 1930s Nazis and they are not the only targets of today’s Nazis. A Nazi salute is not only antisemitic. It is also racist, ableist, and queerphobic.

Confirming this happened to me too… and I’m in the middle of writing one.

Trump: "Take America back [to 1897*]." *the year before SCOTUS maintained the protections of birthright citizenship in US v Wong Kim Ark. Wong continued to navigate challenges to his citizenship decades later, seen in this form. That this is a question today is such a disservice to his memory.

What a shame that not just one, but both of our MI senators have voted in favor of this anti-immigration, xenophobic act.

Bless the @aadl.org. I was returning a library book but noted that my dog had chewed the corners 😒. I was more than happy to pay for it but they told me no charge for a first time and I get to keep the book!

"California wildfires are emblematic of the climate crisis and a harbinger of a dangerous future...in addition to the existential risks and air quality impacts posed by severe wildfire, functional forest ecosystems are critical for regulating water..." climateandcommunity.org/research/hig...

An LA organizer I trust shared this General Resource Spreadsheet with me. It includes nonofficial shelters and other resources for people affected by the LA fires.

The woman set afire while sleeping this morning on the subway was likely unhoused & sleeping on the subway because of the frigid temps. Having safe, affordable, permanent housing could have helped prevent this devastating act. Instead, the city subway is getting 250 more National Guard members.

I know that some of you either have access to resources (MONEY) or know people who do. I am asking you to PLEASE insist that those people fund abortion access. GIVE MONEY TO ABORTION FUNDS. I've been a broken record on this for years. The funds exist; THEY NEED TO BE RESOURCED.

A good as ever to talk about universal health care!

Everyone should be sharing this story about the Amnesty International report because yes many of us have long acknowledged that it’s a genocide but there are still people who need the validation of a report from an org like Amnesty to believe it’s true zeteo.com/p/amnesty-co...

Being part of a "viral underclass" isn't just about facing death, @thrasherxy.bsky.social said: "It's also seeing people come together and understanding a shared responsibility for our collective human body.” Full interview here:

Solid turnout from students, staff, and faculty at today’s rally for protect DEI at the University of Michigan. As one speaker said, “We need to make DEI better, not smaller.” The regents are meeting this Thursday to vote on defunding DEI. Shame!

Biden came into office saying he would "end" the pandemic only to go on to ignore it/dismantle the limited pub health infrastructure built under Trump to address it even tho his 3rd infx ended his 50-year political career. Now he's ignoring the 1st stages of a possibly deadlier pandemic with H5n1.

We’re doing a blanket drive! Instead of engaging in mindless consumerism today, donate to cover the cost of one blanket in the north, approx. $38USD at tinyurl.com/sameerproject-north or $90USD in the south at tinyurl.com/sameerproject-south

An article I got to collaborate on with the @uclalabor.bsky.social awhile back! We found that creative policy strategies are needed to address the time theft within today's unstable retail scheduling.

My child assessing Chicago for the first time to see if she likes it.

In my first semester as a faculty member, the regents of University of Michigan are set to defund DEI. I’m a scholar of anti-racist health. I was hired by the university wide initiative on anti-racism. This is extremely troubling but I’m glad the Faculty Senate is ready to fight.
