morality aside: it turns out, as a purely sociological matter, that a politics premised on empowering people who loudly and performatively don't care if discriminated-against Others suffer and die results in surprisingly indiscriminate suffering and death. this needs to be explained to people

💙 Brian Cox gets it

When I saw the disgusting "trump Gaza" video this morning, the bile rose to my throat. I won't share it. Instead, help me promote this counter narrative by Tala, from Gaza. "Gaza is not yours to take. Gaza is ours, and we are still here. This is our land." BRAVO to her strength and DEFIANCE. 🥹💪

My fav thing about working at a uni specialising in healthcare is adding widely neglected topics e.g, Ablesim, Medical Trauma & Psychologically Informed Healthcare to DPsych framework. Today, I went interdepartmental sharing my work with a Chronic Heart Failure Programme delivered by nursing dep ❤️‍🩹

Breaking news: U.S. sides with Russia to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning Moscow for the Ukraine war. Washington’s dramatic shift on the conflict marks a major break with its European allies and coincides with the Trump administration’s bid to repair relations with the Kremlin.

"The very fact that I am having to publish this anonymously in a country that has the right to free speech written into our Constitution is an indictment of what is happening." www.bmj.com/content/388/...

This is fascism.

With all this chat about #Scotland just a wee reminder that our healthcare and prescriptions are free. NHS Scotland has spent millions treating my congenital heart condition from ‘cradle to grave’ - a sign of collective humanity ❤️‍🩹

🚨The US Vice President just LIED about human rights in Scotland! Misinformation fuels the far-right; we won't stand by and let him get away with it. (More info below 👇)

Absolutely chilling post by @chrischirp.bsky.social setting out how T rump is aggressively mobilising a classic authoritarian playbook. I did not think I would see the death of American democracy (and American science) in my lifetime. #academicsky open.substack.com/pub/christin...

Was absolutely not prepared for the gut punching ending to this amazing series 🥹🥲🥹 - and it’s a true story. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

The world's richest man - perhaps the richest man who has ever lived - gloating about shutting down aid for the world's poorest people. All while posing as the champion of the common man. The great lie of populism in its most naked and morally putrid form.

February is heart month. Every person, no matter where they live, deserves access to lifesaving care for childhood-onset heart disease. Let’s unite to close the care gap. Please share. @globalarch.bsky.social #InvisibleHearts #COHDAwareness #InvisibleHeartsCollectiveAction

Authoritarian states have always attacked universities and academics. It’s a well-documented pattern of behaviour historically. It’s happening in Trump’s America.

And disabled people. It’s sickening.

We made it through the thick of winter. Snow deficit is still a foot below average.

When the 4 Non Blondes said “And so I wake in the morning and I step outside, and I take a deep breath and I get real high and I scream from the top of my lungs WHAT’S GOIN ON?!” I really felt that.

11-year-old chimney sweep George Brewster was forced up a flue measuring just 12x7.5 inches. His death, after becoming jammed inside, finally galavanised parliament to act. Never forget what cruelties would be inflicted by greed were it not for “red tape”. www.theguardian.com/culture/2025...

Great to see the ongoing success of this online NHS support group, for people with congenital heart conditions, at Bristol Heart Institute based on our book. It was developed following the success of a similar (in person) group at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital Hospital in New York ❤️❤️‍🩹

This is a totally unacceptable consequence of consistent underfunding and inhumane treatment of patient and staff alike 😢

8 major hospitals have declared critical incidents in the last 24hrs alone. Some of the 100s of patients stranded on trolleys, in corridors & in the back of ambulances will likely die there. This isn’t normal, inevitable or attributable to viruses alone. (1/2) www.thetimes.com/article/89c4...

‘A professional thorn in the side.’ Just finished #Lockerbie - a brilliant portrayal of a father’s unflinching fight ‘for truth and justice’, introducing the story to a new audience & offering a reminder of how vulnerable the official account may be to proper probing.

How many other people’s childhood medical notes have been destroyed without their consent? This is not person centered care, it is far from psychologically or trauma informed practice & deeply disappointing the powers that be have not taken the opportunity to learn, address and improve practice.

Obstetricians needed to rely on my mum’s memory of me getting surgery in Yorkhill in the 80s to make decisions about whether my child needed monitoring for their own heart. Can only assume my records have too been deleted. Grateful for all Liza has done here to fight this.

Disappointing response from SPSO re destruction of my paediatric cardiology records, detailing six thorocotomies, OHS & countless cardiac procedures. Made it clear I don’t want financial compensation just recognition of implications on health rights for people with lifelong conditions 😢❤️‍🩹 #healthsky

Nobody wants a student essay as a product; we want students to learn to compose their thoughts in written form as a process. I mean, would you have a machine run your laps or play your scales for you? In which case we would not say you had run or played.

🚨 Good news🚨: #Retraumatisation during trauma-focused therapy for #PTSD is uncommon (3.4%)!🤝🏼 However, there is variability in clinicians’ interpretation of what retraumatisation is and this is related to confidence in using trauma-focused therapy.☝🏻 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #PsychSciSky

Most emotion regulation research focuses on negative emotions. In focus groups, people said managing positive emotions (being able to cheer themselves up) was key to overcoming trauma. Now we've created a measure and have data backing up their insight. #edusky #psychscisky #academicsky
