This EP birthed a new sound. Buck's jangly guitar. Mills' bass and harmonies. Berry's drums. Stipe's voice and mumbled, enigmatic lyrics. They are my first true musical love.

Tonight's recommendation. Townes Van Zandt Live at the Old Quarter. I don't like his voice. His playing is simple. But man, oh man, can he write songs. This album showcases his writing. If you can only have one TVZ album, this is the one.

If you're following, my finsta comment was met with "Dad, your insta is your finsta." She went on to explain. I said finsta was a terrible label and offered pinsta (personal insta) or sinsta (second onsta) She said mine were better but that no one really cared what I thought. The deed was done.

Just arrived. Another great re-issue from @bluenoterecords.bsky.social. Gordon, Powell, Michelot (bass), and Clarke (drums). Gordon at his hard-bopping best.

To my new followers: Many of you will be disappointed. I post more music/cocktail/anime reccs than scientific papers. All of the papers I post are mine (personality/PD stuff). I am fairly snarky. I am definitely opinionated. I am a bit of an open science/transparency scold. Feel free to unfollow.

For those interested, I just told my daughters that I was thinking of making a finsta. I am so winning.

In this commentary, we contend that p-hacking (undisclosed data practices aimed at achieving statistical significance) and HARKing (presenting post hoc hypotheses as though they were made a priori) are unethical according to APA guidelines. 1/2 Here is a free print version: osf.io/nu3bs

Excited to see our (@nphillips36.bsky.social, @drlynam.bsky.social) viewpoint on unethical research practices is now published at J. of Psychopathology and Clinical Science. psycnet.apa.org/doiLanding?d... pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39964511/

This is some good, good stuff. Hard Bop as its finest Silver, Blakey, Mobley, Durham (trumpet), and Watkins (bass). Pretty vinyl too.

My daughters regret introducing me to the gram. I guarantee it. I can hear the eye rolling, head smacking, and exasperated sighing now. From hundreds of miles away.

The first great Miles Davis quintet: Davis, Trane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones. They had just signed with Columbia Records, but owed Prestige 4 albums. They held two marathon recording sessions leading to Cookin', Relaxin', Workin', and Steamin'. 1/2

I've been wanting this one for a while. Waltz for Debbie from the Bill Evans Trio. Live from the Village Vanguard (the second LP from that appearance. I love this band. @riversiderecord.bsky.social puts out quality vinyl. Sounds is always great. The LP comes with an antistatic, antiscratch sleeve.

That might be compelling if it were at all transparent. Definitely a place where preregistration would have helped. Too late now.

HeAthens Homecoming Saturday edition. This is always my favorite show. All of the DBT experts are there. The cuts are deep. The opener (Thelma and the Sleaze this year) is always great. The boys leave it all on the stage. 1/2

First night of HeAthens Homecoming in the books. A fine show. Always great to have the Dexateens open.

But folks should still have validity/quality checks. Although the two conditions yield valid data at the same rate, neither yields 100% valid data.

‘You Can’t Let This Happen,’ Says Fundraising Email From Sitting U.S. Congressperson

It has been a while (for me at least) since I posted a music recommendation. This one popped back. Tyler Childers' Can I Take my Hounds to Heaven? Brilliant!!! 10 out of 10.

Newly accepted RR (Stage 2) at Clinical Psychological Science reporting on the state of Open Science Training in clinical psychology programs from @kaelavantil.bksy.social, @nphillips36.bsky.social, @vvveradu.bsky.social, Leigha Rose, @jdmiller.bsky.social, and me. 1/13 osf.io/preprints/ps...

"It’s disgusting and, frankly, counterproductive to point out that I voted for this. To imply that I had personal free will and agency when I walked into a voting booth and picked Mayor Bomberman is insulting."

Important new paper for clinical psychology! Please amplify. Clinical science needs open science.

Ordinarily, I hate to see a Calvin & Hobbes defaced. Ordinarily.

Awesome to see our paper on Open Science training in clinical psych programs now in press at CPS. @kaelavantil.bsky.social and I had the chance to present some of the findings at SRP back in October, and I wanted to share a few of the visualizations from that presentation. (1/n)
