Iā€™m glad Labour is supporting these workers, who are at risk of losing 400 jobs. Would be nice if they were also supporting university workers, where 10,000 jobs are at risk. In the first week of February alone 1,000 job cuts were announced. Nothing from Labour at all in response.

Seems rather important at a time when there is foolish talk of a third runway at Heathrow ... petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

This is very good. Focus is on Zuckerberg, but also offers a brief recent history of how social media got to where it is today + some thoughts on where it goes from here podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/s...

Climate policy & immigration policy are increasingly intimately linked, not least because when you legitimise bad actors like Farage you give them the power to popularise this dangerous nonsense

Engrossed by this book of interviews atm. Love this from 1974: ā€œIf you ask me for a visual picture of the future, I think itā€™ll be increasingly lunar [where] individual actions & individual pieces of behaviour & individual thoughts sit in isolation, like pieces of sculpture embedded in a duneā€.

A really powerful opening story on this weekā€™s @overunderpod.bsky.social about Ibrahima Bah & the shameful criminalisation of people seeking asylum in the UK Plus a great analysis of the Starmer ā€œresetā€ podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/o...

A short piece I wrote in response to the UKā€™s Far Right riots this summer has just come out along with this collage I made. It takes aim at ā€œmulticulturalism has failedā€ rhetoric. Read for free here: sedpoltergeist.com?page_id=304

Among a range of others, I spoke at length with the Times Higher journalist about student number controls for this piece, and I'd say it gives a balanced account. It comes on the same day news breaks that we anticipate as many as 10,000 jobs going in HE *this year* alone.
