tons and tons and tons of indie devs of my generation and a bit older have the same origin story of "i didn't realize you could make games that good on your own until i played cave story." the indie scene as we know it would be completely unrecognizable without cave story

The thing with a live service is, and if you had any knowledge and experience of playing games you'd know this, only a handful can exist at any one time, and very few have ever really succeeded. They are a kind of game that dominates the player's time, often to the exclusion of all else.

Just to emphasize: this is not a "kids these days" post. Apple and other tech companies intentionally changed both their hardware and software to trap people inside their ecosystems and make in increasingly difficult to fix or do things yourself. Tech wanted this, and you see same in older gens too

i only ever read the book, which was titled "mrs. frisby and the rats of nimh", which i took to mean more whimsical and less watership down. but, well...
