I'm exhausted and drained, but what a wonderful few days at AMSN 2024 was! Michelle Cahill discussing and reading from her novel, Daisy and Woolf, was such a grand way to finish, too. Congratulations and thanks to @utasenglish.bsky.social and @drmilthorpe.bsky.social and team for hosting!

Last day of "Modernism and modernity at the edge" started (depending on who you were) with a masterclass on life writing led by the brilliant @noreenmasud.bsky.social, or a wander thru the colonial house museum Narryna to ponder the ruptures of history and modernity on this island...

Day 2 of AMSN, "Modernism and modernity at the edge", opened with bracing and wide-ranging panels (Elizabeth von Arnim! Print culture! Limits!)...

Deadline extended to April 30! We have some absolutely brilliant international keynotes & home grown plenary events planned. Attend in person on beautiful lutruwita (Tasmania) or consider remote attendance!

Overheard: our 7 year old child, on the phone, singing the War On Drugs to one of his mates

Lovely keepsake from my Honours student

Is "court circular" the kind of thing a reader in 2025 and beyond likely to need explained?

Would the phrase "at the present" (referring to soldiers) mean that the soldiers are standing presenting arms? Is this well-known military slang?
