The president is recommending a 40% cut to next year’s NIH budget. This would be disastrous for our nation’s health and economy. Please contact your representatives, especially if they are Republicans, and tell them why this cannot happen. An easy option: 5calls.org

Budget released today: 40% cut to NIH 50% cut to NSF If enacted, this will destroy academic research in the United States. It will also have a major trickle down effect on the entire academic ecosystem

Our NSF-HSI grant was cancelled. The aim of our grant was to improve transfer success for community college via wastewater surveillance training. It is a devastating loss to QCC and LGG community college and to QC all CUNY schools.

How do these individuals compare to “criminals”? www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/u...

"NIH [Bhattacharya] to prioritize human-based research technologies." Huh? Seems obscure. ⁉️⁉️ But it's devious. It's worth being explicit: This is NOT about science. Cancer/demential cure work already uses the best expt system. This is ABOUT POLITICS. Thread: 1/3🧵

Please read and share this letter: "The terminations [of NIH grants are] damaging to the nation due to effects on: - Gov't waste - Patient lives - The scientific workforce - Competitiveness with China and other nations" www.coalitionforlife...

Crimes against humanity! I am sickened to my core! This must be stopped!

“Dude [Stephen Miller] hasn’t had an original thought since.” Yes. Roughly correct. He’s nothing special. What happened to give him power, though, is rightwing oligarchs spent enormous sums to pack the courts, take over media, and buy elections. And scientists and universities didn’t pay attention.

This is what a rigged economy looks like: In the 1970s, CEOs made 27 times more than the average worker. In the 1980s, CEOs made 48 times more than the average worker. This decade, CEOs are making 354 times more than the average worker. That has got to change.

I spent the day at the ICE Detention centers where Rümeysa Öztürk and Mahmoud Khalil are being unjustly detained. They've been taken thousands of miles away from home and denied due process. I’m here to call for their immediate release and make it known that they haven’t been forgotten.

I filmed this yesterday on my way to Lousiana where my constituent Rümeysa Öztürk is being wrongfully held by ICE. I’m there now demanding her release. More to come.

It's so odd that Christian Nationalists are trying to stomp out *pretend* "anti-Christian bias" when their repudiation of everything Jesus ever said is the biggest example of *real* "anti-Christian bias" in the United States right now.

NEW: Mahmoud Khalil's wife gave birth to their child without him after ICE denied their request to let him be present. “This was a purposeful decision by ICE to make me, Mahmoud, and our son suffer,” Dr. Abdalla said. “My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud."

Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen went to El Salvador to lobby for the release of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, whose deportation has gripped the U.S. He isn't the only lawmaker with such a trip in mind.

Hearing 80%, 1,400, of CFBP employees received a RIF notice today. Let’s be clear: this is an ILLEGAL use of the RIF process. What happened is Trump tried to close CFPB in Feb. A judge stopped him. Now he’s using RIF to close CFBP. No. Gutting CFBP is illegal. The courts must stop this too.

Super sad to hear. I've been blissfully ignorant about this. MARC gave me my start in science. It literally was a choice between doing research or continuing at an internship to pay for school [which would have led to a job and no science] bsky.app/profile/rdhe...

Just learned that #NIH Bridges to the Baccalaureate program has been terminated. Both LaGuardia and Queensborough Community Colleges in NYC had B2B grants and many of my best students were supported by B2B funding. Another huge loss for the STEM talent pipeline in the US.
