So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

I don’t know why this is hard for folks to understand. The layoffs aren’t just about probationary employees. They are going beyond that. It won’t stop. It’s all about making agencies non-functional.

Heartbroken. Today has just been.. horrible beyond belief 😞

Cooking away my frustration after work today. Made a vegetarian bento box

To put into perspective how maddening these pauses and stops to funding are: these are all funding that have been approved/already at agency financial systems/are programmed & legally notified. It’s equivalent to the banks saying you cannot even withdraw or spend your own $$$ from the bank!

First attempt at milk steam bun :) I’d say it was quite a success

Literally. The only fucking person that needed to attend. OF ALL THE TRANSITION MEETINGS. And he couldn’t be bothered.

Those of you calling for us to continue the fight to protect science and stop being whiny quitters... Please understand that that's what we've been doing...for ages. It's not like anti-science and misinformation appeared when DJT appeared. We do this outside of our normal day to day jobs

I asked bucket if he had room in his magic sparkly getaway hideout. He said room for one only

“the immediate halting of funding to the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), including a stop-work order for existing grants and contracts, places millions of lives in jeopardy”, @iasociety.bsky.social writes in a statement. #IDsky 🧪

I’m reflecting on all that has happened this week. It is a mixture of sadness, paranoia, scared, mad, disappointed, and overall a sense of grief. It is a prevalent sense of grief of the inevitable dismantling of our diverse scientific and academic institutions.

I forgot how much I did not miss the dread of opening up work emails. It’s only been just a day.

The PRESIDENT ELECT does not and should not get credit for “solving” problems that he started. This revisionist cognitive dissonance needs to be called out every time.

I don’t intend to softly side step the issue of RFK Jr. He’s an anti-vax non-expert that has conned and cheated the American public. That’s it. Stop using anything else to describe him or his policies.

There's been a huge discussion brewing within the science communication groups on approaching how lay folks should approach scientific publication. Many raise great points and the camps are split between teaching folks how to read publications and NOT to read them/let experts explain.

👋

……what? How is one THIS aggressively stupid?

If there isn’t a love story between a reincarnation of Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ (Lil Mary and JC for the young crowd) then I DON’T WANT IT 😤

Do…do cats sleep climb?

I also can jumble a bunch of words together to explain my highly unsafe product

Taking out the worlds frustration by cooking. I made mixed batches of crispy onigiri with pork belly and tofu fillings.

Continuing resolutions and government shut downs should not be the norm. Critical services and livelihoods are impacted by this. But I suppose it doesn’t matter to the smug billionaire orchestrating this.

Always amazes me that there is a subset of population that insists on a romanticized version of history where folks lived to the ripe age of 32

Hum….imdef 🤔
