The notion that one can build a virtual cell from its genes and their interactions www.cell.com/cell/fulltex... is an interesting folly that highlights the extremes the #GeneCentric view of Biology can reach 🧵

Two days left to submit your abstract for #WeinsteinCVD2025! DEADLINE: Friday, Feb. 21 @ 11:59 p.m. CST! Submit Here: www.cvent.com/c/abstracts/...

This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrate the brilliant women in our community and highlight articles by #WomeninScience to keep the conversations going(1/3) @davislab.bsky.social discusses gender inequalities in academia and shares her story of becoming a mother-scientist:

🚨 The Ghersi Lab is Hiring! 🚨 If you're passionate about hematopoietic stem cells, developmental biology, and cutting-edge research, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to share. 🩸🐠 📍 Montreal, Canada 📩 [email protected] and Ghersilab.com

Modern-Day Oracles or Bullshit Machines? Jevin West (@jevinwest.bsky.social) and I have spent the last eight months developing the course on large language models (LLMs) that we think every college freshman needs to take. thebullshitmachines.com

🚨We are hiring!🚨 We have postdoctoral positions available! If you're passionate about studying cardiac regeneration and development, join our team in vibrant and beautiful Montreal! Please help spread the word 🫶 For more details see here research.chusj.org/RECHERCHE/fi...

Our happy hour poster is probably the most important work the lab has done.

For those thinking of fleeing to Canada: the Harper government censured federal scientists too. The next conservative government will probably not be much better... 😢

What do we mean by ‘mechanism’ anyway? @dev-journal.bsky.social Executive Editor @katherine-brown.bsky.social gives her perspective on the recent article "A case for broadening our view of mechanism in developmental biology" by @biyolokum.bsky.social @swathiarur.bsky.social and Mansi Srivastava:

Extra! Extra! If you're into cardiovascular development and regeneration, and you want to hobnob with all them awesome scientists, then follow @weinsteinconf.bsky.social and submit an abstract for the 2025 Weinstein Conference in Milwaukee!! #favorite #conference #ever

Important retrospective study, led by Gregor Andelfinger, in JACC: Basic to Translational Science, showing that MEK inhibitors improved cardiac status and survival in patients with RASopathy with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (RAS-HCM). Original manuscript below. Press release: shorturl.at/sJUA4

Happy new year !! There are still 10 days left to apply to the research assistant position in the Andelfinger / Dubrac lab !! Highly recommended !!

An excellent analysis of "AI" image generation, illustrating that LLMs & DALL-E don't "know" or "understand" anything whatsoever. garymarcus.substack.com/p/dont-ride-...

I have seen far too many of these in real life actually..

Dutch championships headwind cycling this Saturday! They cycle in the South west of the Netherlands on normal bikes with one gear and need to battle winds of 6 beaufort or more over 8.5km. #couchpeloton #cyclist #cyclingbluesky #zeeland www.bicycling.com/nl/events/a6...

Created a starter pack focusing on disease modeling in a dish using stem cells! 🧪🔬 Please (self)nominate anyone you think should be added to the list and repost so it finds the right people ❤️ hPSC Disease Modeling: go.bsky.app/EpWsxNG For a good general stem cell pack go here: go.bsky.app/UTW4d7b

I've already pivoted to reading just the stuff that I need to read now for the projects I am working on now. The days of leisure reading are long behind me. #sadbuttrue 🎵

Featured Resource: Gene Expression Database (GXD) Here, Connie Smith and Martin Ringwald introduce the data and functionalities available at GXD @mousegenome.bsky.social and talk about future directions of the database: https://thenode.biologists.com/featured-resource-gene-expression-database-gxd/

This is really horrific. These single cell reference atlases are widely used as is to train all kinds of models! This is one of the reasons I've constantly harping about uniform reprocessing & extremely careful QC of large atlases. 1/
