Important new insights on how to make consent materials and procedures more accessible when conducting research with autistic people and people with intellectual disability #AutRes www.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10....

'Plainly put: suspensions were a way of changing the make up of the student body. In England today, they still are.' New blog by @johncosgrove.bsky.social examining the extraordinarily high rates of exclusion in some Academy trusts.

APPEAL... Please share widely with your networks... Institute of Recovery from Childhood Trauma are looking for Conservative MPs to ensure cross-party membership to be able to re-establish our Childhood Trauma APPG

We need facts as never before. 3 years after Putin invaded Ukraine, I spent 24 hours with combat medics on the Ukrainian frontline. Their courage, compassion, dedication & skill are astounding. Please read & please never stop standing up for Ukraine. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

What an extraordinary day full of hope and optimism. So many contributions from people working with all their hearts to bring about meaningful change for autistic people and their families. #NATPmentalhealth

πŸ“£ Save the date for our conference: 'Autism: The Art of the Possible' Wednesday 8th October 2025 Church House, Westminster, London Watch this space, bookmark our website or sign up to our newsletter for details of speakers & early bird prices - details coming soon www.atautism.org/contact-us/

Wish there had been more time to hear from Jessika Morgan McNeil and Nellie Allsop. We know from many delegates and Experts by Experience that autistic people with eating disorders require adapted treatment plans.

Kate Walder from HCRG Care Group and David Crisp, NATP Expert by Experience talked about the substantial impact of the #NATPMentalHealth

We loved the talk by Emma Gray and Anna Wingrove of Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (and Anna's description of appearing to be a swan, but paddling furiously below the surface!) Like Anna, we'd love to see funding for #NATP to be taken into other settings where it is needed.

An unexpected finding by our NATP Trainers is that they didn't just witness change in their delegates, but also in themselves and in their own lives. We learn together, from and with each other.

We know that shifting mindsets is rarely achieved by telling someone what they are doing and saying is wrong - it takes careful, compassionate facilitation. Dr Ken Greaves spoke eloquently about managing growth conversations with delegates. #NATPMentalHealth

We believe that the National Autism Trainer Programme is special in many ways, and our delegates agreed: *high quality content inc videos and animations *staff wellbeing approach *expert facilitation of discussions and reflective practice

Please take a few minutes to watch this video by @aquinnunbroken.bsky.social . Always powerful and deeply moving. How can you help break the cycle of restrictive practices, misunderstanding and distress?

Tristan Kluibenschadl, one of our expert Trainers and also an Expert by Experience. You can read more about why he is so passionate about improving mental health support for autistic young people here: www.stak.life

One essential aspect of NATP was a focus on staff wellbeing - recognising and addressing the stressors experienced by staff daily, and renewing a sense of hope by sharing how everyone can make small changes that have impact Staff wellbeing leads to staff well doing. #RipplesOfChange #Synergy

Sending our very best wishes to the wonderful @annmemmott.bsky.social, who was unable to attend the conference and give this talk yesterday.

Warda Farah @wardasworld eloquent talk was insightful and engaging, pushing us all to think ore critically about social justice and anti-oppressive practice. For those who missed her talk, look out this paper to get you started: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

That autistic children will grow up into adults who age seems obvious - yet ageing in the autistic population is currently under researched and rarely considered. We are grateful to @cosmichael.bsky.social for her important contributions in this area, and her talk yesterday. #NATPMentalHealth

There is still much more to do before these abusive policies and practices are banned - 'phased out' is clearly interpreted as 'carry on'. #NATPMentalhealth #Restraint #MentalHealth #autism www.theguardian.com/society/2024...
