A lovely clear evening so! Time for some. #SeestarS50 #Messier #Madness Here we have a near real-time view of#M77 and friends. Visible in the 1st ten second exposure for those who are wondering whether you can have a visual like astronomy experience with this […] [Original post on mstdn.social]

When Art Meets Activism: 7 Powerful Street Art Pieces Fighting for the Planet: https://streetartutopia.com/street-art-that-echo-environmental-awareness/

Ladeeze and gennlemen THIS https://retro.social/@ifixcoinops/110981497934452696 is your rabbithole. I've bought books that weren't as fine as this. This is Brazil meets Repo Man. It's brilliant.

not a new observation but Elon Musk genuinely isn't very bright, genuinely has no idea how most things work, and his entire supergenius engineer persona is a tech press-enabled mythology (they've never been held accountable for)

Pondering a CC.BY.DEI license specifying that only those who promise to abide by the principles of DEI can use the creations in question. For software, you could lock it to an organisations privacy and equality statements and if those changed for any reason, the software would refuse to run.

#AndroidSystemSafetyCore was on my SamsungS21ultra - and I’m in the UK. Given everything going on right now, a sneak installed app that scans all the images on your phone, is not what anybody wants.

This is utterly insane. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/feb/07/uk-confronts-apple-with-demand-for-cloud-backdoor-to-users-encrypted-data We’d lose adequacy with the EU which would utterly ruin UK businesses. It’s a clear breach of the human right to privacy. And it’s a f#ck!ng […]

Just wrote about the UK Apple encryption mess. This is a BIG deal. It doesn't just apply to the UK. It would be an absolute disaster for online privacy and security. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/07/u...

Apple ordered to open encrypted user accounts globally to U.K. spying. @theverge reports: "The secret order would give the U.K. access to encrypted backups belonging to any user — not just Brits." https://flip.it/0Iz-og #Apple #Privacy #Cybersecurity #Encryption #UK #Tech

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii. NOAA had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

As I was doing my photon collecting this evening, a press releases from SETI. Basically a comparable tech level civilisation on another planet, could pick up our radio transmissions out to 12,000 light years. Thing is, we’ve been broadcasting for less than 100 years at the necessary power […]

And this is The Flaming Star Nebula in Auriga. Love the mix of emission nebula in red and reflection nebula in pale blue. All illuminated by the ‘runaway’ star AE Auriga. Apparently it got kicked out of the Trapezium cluster in Orion about 2 million years ago […] [Original post on mstdn.social]

A real challenge this, from my neck of the woods. M78 in Orion. Interesting to see not only the emission nebula, but the strikingly dark dust lane above, and indeed the absence of stars to the left which apparently is also due to dust blocking visible light […] [Original post on mstdn.social]

33% illuminated moon tonight to kick of an excellent evening of #Astronomy and #Astrophotography.

IC417 taken with a #SeestarS50. I watched every one of these photons arrive, in batches of 10 seconds. I’ve no idea why it’s called the Spider Nebula - I can’t see it myself. But it’s pretty. Also of interest are a number of very red stars. #Astrophotography

Status. Standing outside in the cold like a proper amateur astronomer collecting photons via this newfangled sensor malarkey. This is the Spider Nebula IC417 starting to show up. As are the bl%@dy clouds. Grrrr #Astronomy #astrophotography #SeestarS50
