So frustrating - My postdocs K23 panel was cancelled yesterday. A delay like this has significant implications for him. It is unfair to the reviewers who have spent 20 hours (on top of work) prepping for the panel...I am about to spend my weekend doing reviews for a panel that may not happen 🤯.

Thrilled to share that the Regents have approved my early career professorship! I am now the Richard Tam Early Career Professor of Translational Bipolar Research at the University of Michigan☺️

Almost all grant-review meetings under Trump 2.0 remain suspended at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), preventing the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research from spending much of its US$47 billion annual budget. https://go.nature.com/4gM6oW4

‼️ Check out my recent DIGIT-MI webinar on pre-processing EMA data. It may be easy to collect but there are some important things to think about before analyzing the data! My pre-processing scripts are being formalized & I will post via GitHub when ready! www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDRQ...

If you are a NIH funded researcher and your state is not on this list, you need to be calling your AG office

Breaking news: 22 states are suing to block NIH’s cutting of indirect costs. See our updated story on the Friday night news and its aftermath. scim.ag/4hTJQ6v

It just keeps getting better and better... 🤯

Back to pottery for my sanity. Took about a 10 month break (aka was too busy and not prioritizing my well being). 2.5 hours away from work and news 🙌🏻

We are hiring a new data analyst to join our data team in the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program. This is an entry-level position with growth potential. You will get to work with a dynamic team and several PIs (like me 😀). See details below. careers.umich.edu/job_detail/2...

Did anyone else just get an email from eRA communications updating them about the litigation against Trump from pausing/witholding funds for NIH grants? Other investigators I know didn't get it so wondering if I got it as I have an NIMH LRP which goes directly to me as opposed to my university?

My NIH funding is used to improve the diagnosis of and treatments for bipolar disorder, a condition that has alarmingly high rates of suicide, co-occurring substance use disorders, cardiovascular disease, and early mortality. #FundNIH

Talk about timing… apnews.com/article/dona...

Are you a Chair? Bug the Dean. Are you a Dean? Bug the VPR and Provost. Are you a Provost? Bug the President and Chancellor. Arm them w/ facts and send them to the media and legislators. Are you in a Republican district? Then you need to get on this stat.

Waking up to this made me want to just crawl back in bed. How is this lawful? This is our and our trainees livelihood not just the work we do on a day-to-day basis. www.cnn.com/2025/01/27/p...

Academic workers across the country are organizing to call on our congressional representatives on Thursday, 1/30, at 3pm ET / 12pm PT to demand these restrictions be lifted immediately. There will be a training over zoom at the beginning of the event. Join us! form.jotform.com/250226137228...

Tuesday AM panic levels = high 🚨

I am hiring a full time study coordinator for our EBI-BD study which uses EEG, cognitive testing, EMA, and wearables to study emotion-based impulsivity in bipolar disorder. Excellent position for someone who is interested in grad school! careers.umich.edu/job_detail/2...

So proud of @julialsmith.bsky.social!!! Her first, first-author pub is now online!!! 🎉🥳 A quick 🧵: intensity/frequency of cannabis use and levels of alcohol and substance use impairment prospectively predicted higher SI in bipolar disorder

Honored that my work from my Young Investigator Award was selected as a 2024 Leading Research Achievement by @bbrfoundation.bsky.social ‼️ bbrfoundation.org/blog/2024-le...
