Seriously, MSNBC’s David Noriega and Jacob Soboroff were doing such great reporting from the main LA protest, from different spots, that they showed how law enforcement instigated trouble that just wasn’t happening.

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand Don't they help themselves, Lord? But when the taxman come to the door The house lookin' like a rummage sale Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes They send you down to war And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?" They only answer, "More, more, more"

I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

MSNBC reporter in gas mask in Los Angeles: I think it was Sheriffs deploying CS gas, tear gas, pepper spray, and flash bang grenades in large numbers. Mounted units pushing against protesters.., every single gathering I saw today was 100% peaceful

Voice of America has a real role in US diplomacy, soft power, global communications. Surprise, now USG is telling employees on administrative leave to immediately return to provide info + "counter-programming" to Iranian media as the conflict escalates. Historic 🗃️ www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

A fantastic reply from @velvethydrangea.bsky.social to my thread enthusing about how young Frank Sinatra was hot AND antiracist!

Don't you HATE when you have a writing idea in your head while you're doing something - it sounds amazing - so you rush home to write it down - but you lost momentum or it's not awesome on the page (yet?)? 😭 It's a start, I guess? I tell my students "get shit down." I thought this wasn't, though!

Tamra is an Arab city in the North District of Israel located in the Lower Galilee. It is home to internally displaced Palestinians and their descendants from the nearby villages of al-Damun, Hadatha, Mi'ar and al-Ruways

Downtown LA was a ghost town last evening. Love to see it full of people reclaiming their space (& dancing!) today. (turn the volume up!)

Garbage trucks, San Diego County Fair shuttle buses & lots of other <HONK>s 💪 around here!

AG Ellison staying at the No Kings rally despite being on the assassin’s hit list to tell the crowd to not be stopped, to keep marching is exactly what I needed in this moment.

Shameful.

there are a lot of good people in this country we will win

I haven't been so appalled by content on Bluesky as I was last night. Dozens of replies explicitly celebrating attacks on civilians in Tel Aviv. If you've convinced yourself that attacking Israeli civilians is a good thing - you're no better than Netanyahu, and you are yourself a genocidal maniac.

We are not our governments. This kind of rhetoric is abhorrent and intolerable. Millions of people across the region, in Israel, in Iran, in Palestine, in the greater Levant and the diaspora are terrified for our loved ones, friends, family, colleagues. No excuse for this mindless pep rally chatter.
