Excellent analysis of the youth vote in Germany (and Europe) by @indubioproreto.bsky.social

Lots of terrible & misinformed takes on Poland tonight, proving once again how shallow the coverage of Poland by most international media is: this time based on an out of context misreading of Tusk’s remark on nuclear & a misunderstanding of his comments on military training. 🫠

See also many middle class UK suffragist/suffragettes who felt the vote had been sufficiently won in 1918 that they moved on to other projects (like dabbling with fascism). Working class women did not get the vote until 1928.

🚨 Very happy to have a new study out in @bjpols.bsky.social with @kristinabsimonsen.bsky.social We research across 8 countries what drives parties to use moral rhetoric in their communication: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

A major leak reveals the ruthless tactics of investment fraudsters. Hundreds of millions of euros flow through a secret industry of proxy companies and account holders, exploiting regulatory loopholes in digital banking to launder money stolen from their victims.

Giorgia Meloni asked the EU leaders to add a sentence on the European Council conclusions praising Donald Trump for his efforts to achieve peace. It was refused. Meloni said that it would be a strategic mistake not trying to get closer to the US.

Fidel Castro regularly gave speeches that lasted for hours, with a record of 7+ hours in 1986. No one dared to be the first one to stop clapping after Stalin's orations. Nicolae Ceaucescu also gave many speeches, interrupted with "thunderous applause," until December 21, 1989.

@constancebantman.bsky.social Petite pensée en sortant de la librairie 😊 Il rejoint une immense pile à lire, mais j'ai hâte de le commencer !

In #Niš today, #Serbia students proclaimed the "Students' Edict", about freedom, about justice, youth and dignity. For four months now students have been protesting for #justice and against #corruption. Worth reading. #Srbija #protesti #blokade #edikt

Based on the '23 election, Slovakia is at 5.62% SNS + 4.75% Republika + 2.21% Sme rodina + 0.84% ĽS NS = 13.42% and then there's the now national-social Smer, with 23%, which would add up to 36.4%, taking it to the other end of the ranking.

After the recent German elections, and while they still negotiate to agree on a coalition, we (more specifically the great @drspguerra.bsky.social) have prepared a special collection of @repjournal.bsky.social with recent articles on German politics 1/ www.tandfonline.com/journals/rre...

📖 EU enlargement is marked by limited citizen involvement, raising concerns about its democratic legitimacy. “The legitimacy of enlargement depends not only on meeting technical criteria but also on ensuring the meaningful participation of citizens,” argues Giselle Bosse. 🔗 ow.ly/UI1A50V1QZb

Two years after the tragic train collision in #Greece that took 57 lives collective grief has turned to anger. With no real progress on railway safety or justice, trust in the government and public services is broken. www.dw.com/en/greeks-to...

This morning I’m going back to my old school to give a talk on how to be an investigative journalist. I thought if someone had come to my school when I was 17, maybe I’d have got to my dream career a bit faster…

Hungary’s government is banning Pride in Budapest, saying Trump’s election has given them the cover they need to do this.

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

French President Emmanuel Macron began a two-day state visit to Portugal to strengthen bilateral ties and encourage European unity as the fate of Ukraine remains uncertain under an increasingly critical Trump administration. #EuropeNews

This is truly devastating news, not only for scholars and scientists, but also for the United States as a great power with global influence. Senseless, heartless, cowardly, and stupid.

Given the Dodik news, it's wroth reminding that the very existence of Republika Srpska could have been averted even in 1994-95, but the EU and US made an active choice to continue to push for its continued existence as an entity within an independent Bosnia Herzegovina. 1/🧵:

Do something about it NOW. The danger is NOW. Full authoritarianism is happening NOW.

'The BA course...“climate justice, sustainability and development”, will begin in 2026. The university says it will equip students with a blend of expertise in climate politics, activism and environmental human rights....this will be combined with the practical green skills needed to drive change.'

Water sector needs 'urgently' fixing says minister. Why is the govt resisting public ownership and promising reprivatisation if forced to nationalise after firm bankruptcy? Put customer/worker elected directors on boards. Let worrkers/customers vote on exec pay.

Reality check. Thank you, Financial Times.
