Delighted to share this new open access article which presents four amazing case studies showcasing coproduction methods in neurodevelopmental research Lots of people have published theory and there are some useful toolkits too, but its still rare to actually read what people did... rdcu.be/ebbgu

It is a delight to be able to announce our speaker for this year's #CRAElecture: the wonderful Dr Vikram Jaswal. 6pm (GMT) 3rd April (It's a slightly longer webinar than our usual webinars, and later in the evening so hopefully more of you can join us) bit.ly/CRAEJaswal

New free paper, Guidelines for the Creation of Accessible Consent Materials & Procedures: Lessons from Research w/ Autistic People & People w/ Intellectual Disability, from teams incl. AASPIRE - more coming from our Outcomes Project led by @cnicolaidis.bsky.social! www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/...

New studies on how rapport differs between autistic & non-autistic ppl suggest having other autistic interactants is more important for autistics' ease, enjoyment: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/..., & social-motor synchrony is more important for non-autistics: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

@uoppald.bsky.social graduate Addie originally gave MSc course unsolicited, positive review on Twitter prior to Musk's takeover. Here are her updated thoughts, having since been graduation speaker for all of Psychology at Portsmouth, presented her thesis at ITAKOM w/ paper on the way, started a PhD.

Proud to teach Neurodiversity Studies, supervise & tutor for this progressive (critical, social, neurodivergence-affirming) master's course designed to fit needs of working/busy students. It is optional to attend "live" sessions (which are recorded) and tutors work w/ students' schedules to meet.👇

My @uoppald.bsky.social student Harley Bruce led a paper with @kmunday.bsky.social and me on gender-affirming care for autistic transgender and non-binary adults. 👇 I fear the results of the German election today for immigrants, disabled, trans+ people, & more under attack from the far right. See 🧵

We are new to BlueSky! We research people & things in their contexts. Follow us for Centre & members' updates. ICYMI we welcomed @hattdesigns.bsky.social Sarah Timperley & Jessica Riordan to share their Neurodiversity Project on neurodivergent students & staff (see unimelb.edu.au/neurodiversity)!

"[Potential changes to Medicaid] would dramatically alter states’ budgets and could curtail or end care for millions of people with disabilities."

The sad thing is that email and admin have taken over academic life so much that many of us have to squeeze in the poisoning of minds on evenings and weekends.

"how do autistic children understand and conceptualise play?"--interviews, free journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... autistic children "described play as involving fun, friendships and engagement with meaningful materials and activities" & "deeply valued a sense of freedom and choice in play..."

Good to welcome @hattdesigns.bsky.social Sarah Timperley and Jessica Riordan to Portsmouth to learn about the exciting findings of the University of Melbourne Neurodiversity Project. On Valentine’s Day good to show love for neurodivergent students and staff! www.unimelb.edu.au/neurodiversity

Disabled ppl need to mobilize again, & disability rights should be cross-partisan. Activism eg 504 Sit-Ins (allied w/ Black Panthers & Butterfly Brigade) & Capitol Crawl for ADA helped get disability rights laws passed, enforced. Now demagoguery risks infectious diseases, sterilization, supports..

Lectured today on RFK referring to Willowbrook institution as "snake pit" in 1960s. Evidence of harm: today his son is confirmed as health secretary. www.yahoo.com/news/mitch-m... Also lectured today on mass sterilization of disabled ppl during WWII. Now this: www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

A lovely 3rd year student of mine is looking for participants for her dissertation on victimisation and masking among autistic people: CW for questions on experiences of violence. Any reshares/time much appreciated. No funding attached. eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...

We're looking for autistic parents to take part in a study on burnout: durhamuniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_... Please take part/share if you have capacity.

New interview-based study for autistic parents of autistic children (who realise your autism after your child's). Options include Zoom, Teams (for video, audio-only, or text-only), e-mail or face to face (drivable distance from Horsham, West Sussex). To register interest: research.sc/participant/...

In 1960s Kennedy family protected disabled ppl's rights & RFK called Willowbrook institution a "snake pit". Through deinstitutionalization, education for all etc. ppl w/ significant disabilities are more publicly visible. Now his son RFK Jr. falsely blames vaccines. 🐍 www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

New study: autistic and non-autistic adults in North America were more likely to use and prefer identity-first terms than person-first terms. Many were critical of functioning labels. www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/...

To clarify, Boycott Spectrum 10K was the main driving force behind stopping Spectrum 10K: unpaid and grueling cognitive and emotional labour. Here is a example of the activists' history: aucademy.co.uk/2021/09/03/b... Autistic people have power as a community. autisticltd.co.uk/2025/01/30/c...

Congrats to @kmunday.bsky.social and all of us in autism community who helped to #StopSpectrum10K. Today the S10K team announced study's cancellation. See the report from Hopkins Van Mil and Karen Leneh Buckle, and a reflective blog by Simon Baron-Cohen: www.autismresearchcentre.com/projects/spe...

Hot take: Kennedy family has done more harm than good for healthcare+ since 1960s. Ted Kennedy blocked healthcare reform during Carter administration b/c he’d run against him. Ted allowed the Judge Rotenberg Center to torture disabled people in his home state. Now RFK Jr. threatens to unleash hell.

Disability rights (Section 504, ADA, IDEA: www.disabilityscoop.com/2025/01/27/s...), Affordable Care Act, and gay marriage are all at risk in the U.S. Of course, so much of government and funding, separation of powers, the democratic republic itself are under threat. Hold the line against tyranny.

Survey by my PhD student @elinorlim.bsky.social on how family (parents, partner, sibling, etc.) support may impact the experiences of autistic university students in the UK. See below for for eligibility and how to participate. Please share.
