A trifecta of troubling developments are upon us: the refusal to roll out necessary harm reduction services, the expanded use of involuntary admission, i.e. forced abstinence, and the crackdown on lifesaving prescribed safer supply. We get into it here. www.iheart.com/podcast/1300... #bcpoli

I still think this is one of the most gutting notes I’ve ever read.

I cannot stress enough how important it is for all elected officials to read this, and then stand in front of a mirror and contemplate how you have failed. Then, take action.

This is well done. www.msn.com/en-ca/news/c...

The Senate is considering a bill to spend money on “TruBLOC,” a “fentanyl-neutralizing spray” for law enforcement, which is actually just an Axe bodyspray canister that sprays orange latex on drugs to prevent “powder form fentanyl (from) exploding” bc they think LEOs are ODing on fentanyl in the air

Exactly. www.timescolonist.com/opinion/comm... #YYJ

Wild how many hot takes I’m seeing claiming that drug use is now accepted bc of elon/trump, when I guarantee they could walk out their front door and trip over someone whose use is criminalized to the point that it’s ruined their life bc they aren’t a rich white man. It’s power. It’s always power.

Nice, functioning, interesting, caring, smart, creative, weird, silly, compassionate people use drugs. also Elon

“Clinicians should be able to make decisions based on the research and based on what is best for their patients,” she said, “without fear of political or public backlash for doing what is best for the person in front of them.” @andreasereda.bsky.social

Holy fuck.

British Columbia's Supreme Court will consider whether the "deemed consent" provision of the province's Mental Health Act - which means you can be automatically treated involuntarily if you're hospitalized involuntarily - violates Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. bc.cmha.ca/news/charter...

I missed this: BC is holding involuntarily hospitalized people - by definition among the most vulnerable - in solitary confinenent. This runs counter to Mandela Rules and, going by prior court rulings, Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. www.mapleridgenews.com/home2/bcs-fi...

"Can these scenarios be prevented? I believe they can... Slow the cash flow to law enforcement, reject wasteful and ineffective involuntary care, and reclaim simply caring, as we do in Canada, for each other." thetyee.ca/Opinion/2025...

Deprescribing, forced tapering, drug seizures, involuntary “care”, and all the other manifestations of criminalization—does not stop people from using drugs. But it does lead to drug supply volatility, increase risk for harm, and death. Thread. #bcpoli

Oh look, it’s British Columbia, in microcosm.

If a harm reduction strategy fails to reduce harms it’s rejected and no longer gets to be harm reduction, it is literally that simple. There are many things from the early days of harm reduction that got drop kicked into the sun once it became clear that they were bad ideas.

This is torture. filtermag.org/bc-involunta...

"The best intervention would be to invest in robust voluntary treatment and social supports to help prevent individuals from travelling a road where others might deem involuntary treatment to be necessary."
