I understand why Chinese native speakers occasionally struggle with consonants in western languages. This is wildly different, & switching between hard & soft consonants like this is hard. It takes dedication. Never mock someone for speaking your language poorly, it takes effort to learn them.

Regarding parental estrangement. I raise the question. How often to the parents say something akin to "If you ever become of those queers, you're dead." Then the child make a valid threat assessment, and get the hell away from the potential murderers? Beause I have read this story, many times.

Oh this old article is surfacing again, I strongly recommend reading it sometime. It is about why children cut off contact with their abusive parents, and the twisted way the abuse is whitewashed. The pattern is recognizable elsewhere as well.

We have to remember that to the Reactionary, a criminal status is a matter of caste hierarchy, not actions. A high caste individual is automatically and always innocent, regardless of actions. A low caste individual is ALWAYS guilty, no matter their actions or lack thereof.
