Over 50 years ago, a company built and sold a vinyl player; it was mostly made out of metal, completely analog and with a handful of hard plastic components and just a couple of rubber washers. This unit was built to last!

I have an issue with my vinyl player from the early 70s. I do some googling and find a forum thread about this exact model, from 2021. The last post was... 3 days ago. People have been discussing styluses for my 55yo record player for 4 years. I guess... the internet ain't completely dead.

Finally wrapped up this nightmare of a project; an L5 Riesig from the hit 2006 game Battlefield 2142. I started working on it in November 2022 (!!!) but it's been very intermittent work since spring 2023. It's not perfect, but... it's done 😮‍💨 (dr pepper can for scale)

It's very silly how primates evolved to walk on two legs, but also, seemingly, a sense of embarrassment at what those freed-up limbs are doing in any social situation. Had we only waited a bit before inventing society we could've gotten some kangaroo-like pouches to stick our hands in. Meat pockets.

A guy just waved me down; he looked homeless, and normally I might've waved him off, but he caught me off-guard. He explained that he just wanted someone to talk to, so I figured, why not. He never asked for money, or help even - only a cigarette at the end. 🧵
