Knitting a sweater out of sock yarn makes such a nice fabric and is also a massive pain in the ass.

I also remind myself regularly that while I "care" about many things, I cannot do all of the things. It's a big reason I am anti yelling at people who become newly engaged in something that I care about. They are probably like me in caring about a lot but only being able to act on a few things.

“I would punch a N*zi.” Um, you won’t even wear a mask.

It's a weirdly millennial experience to have to convince your parents to not buy the digital copy of a movie because you're buying the physical media

This is very good. Clear and succinct.

Rather than institutional *failure* perhaps more people are clearly seeing what Congress actually is as an institution.

If you are in danger unless you comply with a regime, you are in danger whether you comply or not

An actual sentence just uttered in my house: "Mooooooom [little sister] hit me in the forehead with Mr. Worf!"

You gotta be a real loser piece of shit if “DEI” is ruining your life and you’re scared of everything “woke.”

My family, despite our best efforts, are sick again and I'm feeling so deeply resentful of all the people talking about "resistance" who gleefully left disabled people behind and ignored the pandemic.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Having a regular volunteering gig at my local library has done more to keep me grounded than almost anything else. Every week I know, no matter what else I have capacity for, I have 2 hours set aside to interact with and my community. Highly recommend.

Last night at dinner my parents were sharing parts of Let This Radicalize You they found inspiring and thought provoking. Can confirm that if you have hippy boomer parents it makes an excellent gift.

I've long been intimidated by sweaters but the raglan patterns on tin can knits have become my new hyper focus 🧶

After almost 3 years of living here my hottest take about Indiana is that drivers here are terrified of merging. (Or possibly just don't know how to do it). I am baffled by how long people are willing to wait in traffic with the other lane fully empty to avoid a zipper point a half mile away

This morning's quick reminder: generative AI is a natural resource-guzzling plagiarism machine that exploits creatives to enrich tech bros. Do not use it to create art or writing. Do not conduct "fun" experiments with it to show us how awful it is. There is no ethical use for AI. Let it die.

It’s never too late to start masking again. Repeat covid infections are not inevitable, no matter how much the government tries to say they are. When you wear a mask you help normalize them as public health tools. You make mask bans harder. You increase disability visibility, which we need now

I have started trying to see if my library has something before I buy almost anything (not just physical media but subscriptions, Software, tools) and am also so pleased how often I find what I'm looking for.

It is my birthday and no one at work got my very funny joke that today I am the answer to life, the universe and everything (I'm 42).

I saw a stage adaptation of clue tonight and the woman in front of me seemed genuinely so thrilled at all the references to the board game but seemed to have no idea it was a movie first. It's always funny to realize your own cultural touchstone is something missed entirely by someone else

Perspective. It’s such an amazing thing. If you’re doomscrolling or spiraling, please read this gift of a thread.

My poor kid has croup AGAIN from getting a cold so if everyone could please put masks on your children when they are sick that would be fucking great so the full burden of community care doesn't fall on high risk kids.

Show seasons are too short now. Filler episodes in 22+ seasons had stories with the most character development.

The thing I can't stop thinking about is that it doesn't have to be like this.

My friend and her partner have lost everything in the So Cal fires. I know that there are a lot of people in need. But if you have anything to spare, I'd really appreciate it if you could support them right now: www.gofundme.com/f/help-katie... - thank you.

It is truly wild that it is estimated that more than 20 million people died of Covid and the prevailing vibe is that the world overreacted. That is an astonishing toll! More people died of Covid in the US than in the Civil War. www.pbs.org/newshour/hea...

My six year old had started showing interest in watching Star Trek with me except all she wants to watch is Rascals.

Last night I was mending a nightgown my grandmother made for me ~35 years ago so my kid could wear it to pajama day and it was such a cool feeling to be a bridge between these two people born almost 100 years apart.

Nothing else quite brings our pets together in peace like a good sunbeam.

Adding kittens to a house that already has a two year old has tripled the amount of times I need to get some small creature to stop trying to eat random bits of fuzz off the floor

Library fans, don’t forget to sign up for tomorrow’s virtual workshop December 5 @ 6pm EST!
