The brother and I took our dad out for his birthday, so that was fun!

All those babies who voted for Wallace Wooley sounded more convincing than the Liberty Mutual baby.

My Oscar pick for live-action short this year would have to go to the Croatian entry simply because it felt like the most cohesive nominee in that category for me. Animated, meanwhile, feels like a toss-up between France (YUCK!) and Japan (MAGIC CANDIES).

I came for shorts and I left with a sweater. @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social, are you a movie theater or a Goodwill?

On a corporate-mandated love day like today, the best thing one can do is to love themselves in addition to others. That’s what I always try to do.

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you: digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.”

I did get the spur-of-the-moment chance to revisit MEMOIR OF A SNAIL earlier this week. I may have felt uneasy about it the first time I saw it, but I found myself warming up to it the second time around. Maybe it was because of outside circumstances or something.

we have andy samberg to blame for google's grip on the world, if he didn't say google maps is the best (true that, double true) in that first snl digital short, we'd have web equity

Oscar catch-up: I wrapped on best picture nominees, started on the docs, and one of them is tougher to watch than the other.

The microwave in my apartment doesn’t seem to be working right, so I’m kinda bluffing through today and catching up on whatever Oscar nominees I can right now.

Shout-out to @terrorvisionvids.bsky.social for expanding out to Southport Ave. near the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social! Granted they’re planning on doing a six-month pop-up, but I do hope their move becomes permanent.

Reviving your bad guys as giants is a dick movie and I’m tired of people pretending that it’s not.

My Oscar nominee catch-up is underway! I may not know much about Iran’s political climate, but I’d be hard-pressed if any of the other International Film nominees stack up this year.

Wanna restock on groceries, but I don’t want to walk in the rain to do it. Wanna hit up a movie, but the stuff I want to see isn’t playing at a good time right now.

They say you never forget your first. And to me, this is one of Hosoda’s best!

This weekend has been kinda messy for me, but I’m sure that others might have it worse right now. Please stay safe out there!

So the only best picture Oscar nominee I have yet to watch won’t be playing in Evanston until next month. Still, not bad for a personal record!

I’m planning to watch the Oscar nominations announcement tomorrow morning on the train to work. As always, all I’m saying or feeling is “whatever happens, happens.”

Outside world sucks, so I’ve been doing my best to cope with movies and also this one livestream happening tonight.

Happy Discotek Day to those who celebrate.

Despite my best efforts, I feel like I’m just bluffing my way through this weekend. It’s like I have ideas of what I want to do, but there’s no real structure to it. Then again, that’s like half my weekends or something.

Wink wink, nudge nudge, universe!

“Don’t fight the darkness. Don’t even worry about the darkness. Turn on the light and the darkness goes. Turn up that light of pure consciousness: Negativity goes.” –David Lynch, Catching the Big Fish

I’ve seen my share, but I have a Blu-ray of WILD AT HEART that I still haven’t removed the plastic wrap from. I think I’ll put it on this weekend.

Pro tip: Probably the best way to avoid all those ice patches on the ground is by doing that dumb, stupid walk from DUNE.

I didn’t think I would prefer Zemeckis’ HERE over WE LIVE IN TIME, but I guess life’s funny like that.

More things came in lately: some in-store finds, Black Friday leftovers, and another cassette tape I’ve been looking out for.

Nothing like a good, annual start to the day!

So much to mull over, but I doubt this will be my last time!

Use optimism as an act of rebellion

Upgraded my first Tarantino for the second time now. Basterds now, Basterds forever!

After working from home yesterday to avoid the blizzard outside, I feel recharged and ready for the weekend ahead!

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a techie dude-bro to successfully accomplish the journey of Lemmiwinks.

Yet another movie that I first discovered through Netflix’s DVD mail-in service gets a serious upgrade! (Shame there’s no extras though…)
