Some easy wins here for anyone to take up. I’m sure most UK birders already practice at least some the low hanging fruit, but just in case … #lowcarbonbirding #birdingWales #birdingScotland #UKbirding πŸͺΆ

Current project: Norfolk Pseudoscorpion guide. Drawing specimens down microscope for labelled diagrams and putting records on maps. Missing photos/specimens for several species so will be a while before it's finished. Map shows all current records, pre (yellow) & post (red) 2000. Not many.

Looks like it’s a 7 spot on white dead nettle kind of day

Wow, how is it Friday already? Some from walks and my garden to celebrate #FlowersOnFriday what have you spotted this week? #dandelions #Blossom #Snowdrops #Crocus saw a massive queen bumblebee this week, frosty overnight but in the sunshine enough warmth for them now.

Bat census 2025 at Salpalinja! πŸ¦‡β„οΈ Super cool & sunny weekend monitoring hibernating bats in the bunkers of Salpalinja. We checked more sites than ever β€” and found 424 bats! 78% of the bunkers had bats, with the badass northern bat dominating. Huge thanks to @nathist.bsky.social for organizing this!

Substantial increase in Gannets and Fulmars at Whitburn after the overnight northerly, but other than 2 Gadwall, little out of the ordinary. #NEbirding

Very much where I stand on this. I was proud to be part of the @birdingclimate.bsky.social book. Proud of its Best Bird Book of the Year award. Proud of its initial reach and traction. But it really is time that the big guns in our community took the lead on the climate crisis and stopped hiding.

I've walked under these beautiful trees in #Falmouth almost every day for nearly 25 years. Have we learned nothing from the wanton felling of street trees in Sheffield & Plymouth? Do consider signing the petition if you're local. chng.it/DjhXqwLbwP

The first line of this is so telling You can’t look for lesserpeckers where the whole wood has been removed 😱
