Re-upping this podcast I did with American University’s Sharon Weiner for absolutely no reason whatsoever. warroom.armywarcollege.edu/podcasts/civ...

I could have imagined a lot of things in American politics but not a normalization of Nazi salutes and such tentativeness by the media to call them what they are. They are Nazi salutes. It’s not owning the libs. It’s not joking. It’s fascism. If you give a Nazi salute, you’re a fascist. Just say it.

General Brown is a brilliant, amazing leader. I worked at the Air Staff for three years and it was known that he read everything the staff wrote for him. He believes if an analyst took the time to write it, it’s his responsibility to read it. Very few generals do this.

In the interest of being petty, I'm going to point out everything wrong with Dan Bessner's salvo against liberal internationalism. 1. He claims that the US has decided to turn its back on the idea of an RBO because of the rise of China. That's dubious. Trump's shift/ jacobin.com/2025/02/trum...

What a rock star! She’s right.

Good men & women in EUCOM are—as they've done every month since Feb 2022—actively helping track & repel this aerial assault. Meanwhile their commander-in-chief at home is actively attacking Ukraine's president, while handing concession after concession to the state firing the missiles.

As Europeans sort out where to go from here, I hope they do not lose sight of the basic principles of solidarity and collective security and end up leaving the Canadians out in the cold.

Since President’s Day and Black History Month came to be celebrated due to the birthdays of notable abolitionist President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, I’d like to commemorate this President’s Day by calling attention to heroic African Americans that fought for all of our freedom. 1/

I know Stathis. He was a colleague of mine at the University of Chicago. He is a pretty buttoned-down scholar. For him to tweet this out is… something.

I should add that when “war” starts the “college” portion of one’s education does not end. The two are not separable.

Passing along a recent conversation I had with [email protected] on Russian hybrid attacks in Europe.

i have written about this before but i have become extremely civic republican virtue pilled as a result of all of this. democracy will not work without an active effort to cultivate virtue among ordinary people!

Let’s think about the scale of Russian casualties and of European Armies…. Russia has lost >600,000 killed or wounded in 3 years. That’s the same as destroying the entire British Army (62,000) ten times. www.defensenews.com/pentagon/202...

Essential piece on US-EU/China from @olivierschmitt.bsky.social “The rapid withdrawal argument is divorced from empirical reality: overlooks Euro eco base of power that wld enable such a quick uptick in defense spending, esp coupled w/potential Trump tariffs” carnegieendowment.org/europe/strat...

It’s still more expensive to rotate U.S. forces to Europe than permanently station them there. Great analysis as usual by @johnrdeni.bsky.social

How the public understands, or misrepresents, the significance of military awards has always been a good bellwether of civil-military relations. (gonna try a thread here ... first time. Wish me luck). #civmilsky

New WOTR podcast is out. I join @ryanevans.bsky.social to talk about the war. We take a step back to focus on strategic issues, decision making in Washington and Kyiv, and options for incoming Trump admin. @warontherocks.bsky.social warontherocks.com/2024/12/wait...

For all who are interested in civil-military relations, you have until 9 December to submit proposals for our annual Army War College Civil-Military Relations Center conference on 2-3 May. There is even some travel money for grad students. Apply here! cmrc.armywarcollege.edu/outreach-pro...
